Do you even know the history of the bible?

Your following a book, the bible, that the catholics you hate put together! All of the early writings of the apostles existed as letters written to the various churches, CATHOLIC churches. At the time, there were also false gospels written, the gnostic gospels, which were deceiving many people! The leaders of the catholic church got together and had to decide on which gospels were true according to the traditions taught them by the apostles and they formed the bible from the writings they gathered and held to be true! The book of revelation was highly debated against and may not have made it into the new testament if St. Augustine hadn't petitioned for its inspiration! The bible was preserved through the latter centuries by being maticulously copied by Catholic monks in monasteries! It was said that it took one lifetime for a monk to make a copy of one bible.

Your trying to use a catholic book (the bible) and catholic notions (trinity, divinity of Christ, apostolic tradition, etc) to attack the Catholic Church?! Protestantism wouldn't exist without the Catholic Church...no christians would! Sounds like you need a refresher course on the truth! A little history research may enlighten you.

Works both ways, oh ranting one. There is one well-known "top contributor" here who has systematically blocked at least 40 regular Catholic contributors, and then posts questions that challenge Catholic doctrine to which we obviously cannot respond if we're blocked. This one then asks in jest, "gee, wonder where all the Catholics are? Can't they answer this one?". It's childish at the very least.

I've blocked those who post anti-Catholic bigotry because I don't have the time or inclination to deal with hateful e-mails --not because they're "following the Bible". However, I will gladly unblock you as soon as I post this response, in a gesture of goodwill. Kindly don't abuse it.

I am Catholic and I have not blocked you. I have no intention of blocking you.

It might be a little retribution, though. Some of the fundamentalists and evangelicals have blocked ME from answering their questions, simply because I am Catholic.

As for not knowing truth -- you've been presented with truth about Catholicism multiple times and you continually reject it. You make false claims against Catholicism without ANY proof.

I have no qualms with you taking aim at Catholicism -- please ask as many questions as you like. But if you are going to state a claim against Catholicism, please have the courtesy to provide your source/proof that backs up your statement.

You should not be afraid to do so -- if you have the proof that what you say is true, then post it. Truth should not scare any of us off.

Perhaps it has to do with the monotonous drivel that people like you spew out parrot-fashion against the true church,to hear the same dull purile repeatings over and over again is akin to Japanese water torture.
Change the record and then perhaps we can begin to really communicate.
By the way I alway`s block those who behave in this way and have nothing of any substance or worth to bring to this forum.
You may well read the Bible but you listen to the daily poison spewed out by inept Pastors who at best are incompetent theologians.

Perhaps they aren't just blocking you but people who are not on their friend list. I don't have a friend list. But if I only wanted to talk to certain people then I would. The block would only be so you couldnt read their question list. You can still answer the questions when you see them I think.

Well I just came back to write another bit. I didn't know that you can't see others questions when you block them lol...... he he that's why the people I got irritated with vanished.

I haven't blocked anyone - at least not knowingly.

However, I have been blocked by more than a few fundamental Bible folks. Like Born-Again-Catholic, how am I supposed to answer their questions on the Catholic faith, if I am not allowed to answer?

As long as you don't block me, I have no reason to block you. As long as you ask honest questions I will answer.
As long as you respect, I will respect.

Now, to your question. I am a Catholic Convert, I spent a great deal of time questioning my faith - and still do to this day. Why? If you don't question, how are you going to learn?

Have you questioned your faith today?

Here is to hoping for honest, open lines of communication.

I'm Catholic and I haven't blocked anyone.

I'm also a convert from protestant to Catholicism some 10 years ago. Thankfully, I listened to God and followed him to Catholicism. I only wish that you would open your eyes and find the truth. Once you do, you'll be in absolute awe!

I do not have anyone blocked.

If you follow the Bible, then

Do you support slavery?

Do you go to church on the Sabbath (Saturday)?

Do you support the death penalty for:
+ Murder (Gen 9:6, Ex 21:12, Numb 35:16-21).
+ Abuse of father or mother (Ex 21:15).
+ Speaking a curse over parents (Ex 21:17).
+ Blasphemy against God (Lev 24:14-16,23).
+ Breaking the Sabbath (Ex 31:14, Numb 15:32-36).
+ Practicing magic (Ex 22:18).
+ Fortune telling and practicing sorcery (Lev 20:27).
+ Religious people who mislead others to fall away (Deut 13:1-5, 18:20).
+ Adultery and fornication (Lev 20:10-12, Deut 22:22).
+ If a woman has intercourse before marriage (Deut 22:20-21).
+ If two people have intercourse when one of them is engaged. (Deut 22:23-24).
+ The daughter of a priest practicing prostitution (Lev 21:9).
+ Rape of someone who is engaged (Deut 22:25).
+ Having intercourse with animals (Ex 22:19).
+ Worshipping idols (Ex 22:20, Lev 20:1-5, Deut 17:2-7).
+ Incest (Lev 20:11-12, 14, 19-21).
+ Homosexuality (Lev 20:13).
+ Kidnapping (Ex 21:16).
+ To bear false testimony at a trial (Deut 19:16, 19).
+ Contempt of court (Deut 17:8-13).

Do you call Mary, the mother of Jesus, blessed? (Luke 1:48-49)

+ Sources of Doctrine +

I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. (John 16:12-13)

Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours. (2 Thessalonians 2:15)

We instruct you, brothers, in the name of (our) Lord Jesus Christ,to shun any brother who conducts himself in a disorderly way and not according to the tradition they received from us. (2 Thessalonians 3:6)

I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold fast to the traditions, just as I handed them on to you. (1 Corinthians 11:2)

The Catholic Church does not use Holy Scripture as the only basis of doctrine. It could not. The early Catholic church existed before and during the time that the New Testament was written (by Catholics).

There were hundreds of Christian writings during the first and second centuries. Which New Testament writings would become official was not fully decided until about 400 C.E.

Catholics believe that the Holy Spirit was guiding the early church (and is guiding the church today) to make the correct choices about things like:
+ The Holy Trinity (which is also only hinted at in the Bible)
+ Going to church on Sunday instead of Saturday (which is actually directly against one of the Ten Commandments)
+ The Communion of Saints
+ Which writings include in the New Testament?

Things that are even more modern like
+ Slavery is bad. Slavery is never declared evil in the Bible. This was one of the justifications for slavery in the Confederate States.
+ Democracy is good. The Bible states that either God should be the leader of the nation like Israel before the kings or kings should be the leader, "Give to Caesar that which is Caesar's." This was talked about a lot during the American Revolution.

This second source of doctrine is called Apostolic Tradition.

Do Christians who do not allow the continuing guiding force of the Holy Spirit to make their beliefs more and more perfect, still endorse slavery as Colossians 3:22 commands, "Slaves, obey your human masters in everything"?

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 80 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect1chpt2.htm#80

With love in Christ.

If they were blocking you, they wouldn't see this question. That's the only reason I block anyone. I don't like trying to answer questions and then discovering that I can't. So I block them back, so I no longer have to deal with them.

are you speaking to all Catholics or a handful ; ego gets in the way to think that man has all the answers to the universe including God ; some people wouldn't know the truth if it was evolving around and underneath them.
