Neither can be totally proven or disprove, so I have to wonder why one seems so smugly superior to the other on either side of the fence....

i dont think you are really thinking when you say that-are you saying that your god is the only god and you dont believe that the other gods are real and that you are ridiculous-follow my point here--if someone says something is real it is up to them to prove it-not for someone else to disprove it----smile and enjoy the day

"I have to wonder why one seems so smugly superior to the other on either side of the fence"

I agree with you and good point.

However, I will say that it does seem likely that God is sitting up in the sky somewhere as does seem the belief.
But there doesn't really exist evidence that he doesn't. Maybe he is invisible or something else that we just don't know about? Science and observation are not perfect. Our eyesight is weaker than that of some animals.

at the same time as claiming very almost something with absolute reality in all probability unavoidably has a splash of the ridiculous, i do no longer think of that for this reason the two arguments are the two ridiculous. the explanation for that's Occam's Razor, of direction. as quickly as you have an evidence for issues that seem to in positive condition the information, it is not an extremely smart factor to do to set approximately looking lots extra complicated reasons for the comparable factor. in spite of the indisputable fact that that's smart to look for less complicated ones. And conversely, in case you have 2 reasons for the comparable factor, the better one is often the splendid one. For any given proposition of existance, that's less complicated to have faith that some thing would not exist than that it does. that's conceivable that someplace in the universe are fairies, unicorns, and vampires... many fiction writers have even made a residing via guessing on the forms of environments that would reason such creatures to clearly come into being. yet considering that we don't seem to have any information that any of those hypothetical environments DO exist, that's extra smart to have faith that they do no longer (and much extra smart to hold out no company perception on the difficulty the two way). as quickly as we get into faith, in spite of the indisputable fact that, there are different problems. that's a incredibly straightforward rely to hit upon people who honestly have faith that they have got won some sort of private revelation or otherwise witnessed events that could not be defined devoid of resorting to the existance of gods of a few sort. of direction such issues may be accident, psychological blunders, etc, yet lower back if we carry to extra convenient reasons it would unquestionably be conceivable for the divine to be the finest (and make no mistake - hardcore atheists who argue that ANY unusual fact is a psychological illness are solipsists in cover). hence we get 2 camps of persons with opposite ideals yet the two one in each and every of whom may be thoroughly smart. we can see the choose of 'might' in there fairly immediately, inspite of the indisputable fact that... a smart individual might in all probability know how others might disagree with him, and many theists and atheists seem no longer able to. So it is going.

It is equally ridiculous unless, as many atheists and Christians do, one defines god as omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, omnibenevolent and creator of the universe. These five qualities cannot exist in one being as they tend to cancel each other out.

The omniwhatsits god cannot exist as defined, so there is no reason to not be certain it does not exist.

Now, if you say that you are absolutely certain there exists no being with sufficiently superior technology so as to appear to defy natural laws, I would find that ridiculous.

Does not seem ridiculous at all. Based on my life experiences, based on our current knowledge of reality, based on every bit of evidence we have for and against, I can honestly and comfortably say without a doubt that there is no god. Never has been. Man created god in his image, not the other way around.

Yes. No one can prove or disprove with absolute certainty (i.e., no doubt) the existence or non-existence of a god. xians typically will say you have to have faith (thus admitting lack of proof). atheists will say you can't prove something isn't there (which is, well, very logical).

I agree. All those comparing religion to the tooth fairy, goblins, etc...your argument has one huge flaw. There are historical accounts of the existence of Jesus Christ, but nothing like that for fairies, goblins and santa claus. Those are fiction. There is a difference and believing in Jesus can't be compared to believing in unicorns for that reason (even though I really do like those unicorns, so cute).

You are correct in saying god can be neither proved nor disproved. However, if a person/group says something exists and you are unable to prove it doesn't, does this make their claim as valid as yours? If that's the case, then can't I rightly claim that *anything* is so, as long as it can't be disproved?

Provide hard physical evidence for the existence of god and I'll join this argument!
