i would also like to know if it is related to me having arthiritis or chondromalacia. and what are my prospects for this to develop wide spread as the pain is so severe and crippling.
i had a very bad headache and felt dizzy and sick yesterday and it has been suggested that i am not left on my own as i have a temperatureas well.

Chondritis is inflammation of the cartilage. Inflammation can occur from trauma, autoimmune response, or infection. Infections of cartilage are not very common outside the ear and throat because cartilage is usually not exposed to germs in other parts of the body unless the infection is in the bloodstream or infection reaches cartilage through a deep wound. When cartilage is infected, its a pretty serious problem because cartilage doesn't get much blood flow, so there isn't a large supply of blood cells to fight the infection.

Both arthritis and chondromalacia cause inflammation, but neither of these generally promote infection. On the other hand, infection can cause localized arthritis, chondritis, and chondromalacia.

You should definitely follow the doctors directions with a cartilage infection, and not take any chances. Have the doc write an order for assistance from a home health nurse if you can afford it. There is a much higher chance of having the infection become untreatable with a cartilage infection than with typical infections in cuts, digestive system, or respiratory system. Go back to the doctor if things get worse or if the antibiotics don't appear to be working after a few days.
