I am totally dumbfounded and stupified that protestants can't hear the words coming out of their own mouths. They say "God gave us the Bible, not men".

God works THROUGH MEN. It was MEN that wrote the Bible, under the inspiration of GOD.
So, it was also MEN who canonized the Bible (decided which books went into it) under the inspiriation of GOD.

You're only other option is that the Bible fell from the sky, or grew on a tree.

When Catholics say that the Catholic Church gave you the Bible, we ARE saying the GOD GAVE IT TO YOU, because GOD WORKS THROUGH MEN.

Moses, Noah, the prophets, GOD WORKED THROUGH THEM ALL.
Holy Moley !! What part of this don't you guys get?

The Church's decisions are binding: "..whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven" (Matt 16:19, 18:18) is what Jesus told the 12 apostles.

How can anybody be so blind? Or, is it that you are filled with so much hatred and bigotry toward Catholics that you refuse to admit history that is staring straight at you?

I think the part that most people don't get, is how you believe this second hand information. How do you KNOW that a God worked through these men? you are deluding yourself, the bible was written by men, there was no Godly intervention telling them what to put in and what to leave out. It was decided at the council of nicea, but they chose the ones that fit the new Trinity philosophy they had just VOTED on, there was no help from God, if there was; PROVE IT! I am amazed that in the 21st C people are still drawn into a 2000yrs old cult, that people believe the words of men, just because they wrote it into a book.

if a man is charged with a crime and he is brought before a jury, that jury might find him guilty, but the appeal jury, with the same evidence might find him innocent. The differences are small but it is human nature to find what you want in the evidence that we are shown. You see the work of God, I see the greed of men, the difference between us, is that I have 2000yrs of human behaviour studies on my side, you only have faith. Faith was the best thing the church ever came up with, for it answers everything but explains nothing, it is what you hide behind when the tough questions are asked. You cannot say what was in the minds of the men that wrote the bible, you cannot say that God worked through them, for it is based on faith, and faith is BLIND.

you don't need organised religion to love your God!

I have starred this question so others can find it

I think the point of saying that God gave man the bible is that just as the writers were inspired by God, so were those who selected which books would become a part of it. The fact that this was accomplished through the Catholic Church does not necessarily validate the Catholic church. There are many examples in the bible of God working through people or nations who were not following His will to accomplish His purpose.

edit: CC...please understand that although I have differences with some Catholic doctrine, I do not hate the church or it's followers. However I do believe that my comments are valid.

The point is, without God there would be no Bible. Men are just God's vehicle. Just because men wrote things down and put the books in binders doesn't mean it was their creation.

"If we were to translate these passages in Matthew very literally (though awkwardly in English), it would read, "…whatever you loose on earth shall having been loosed in heaven." This shows that the apostles were not to decide a matter thus binding heaven to their decision. It means that their decision will be in line with what God's mind was already on the issue."

I am not attacking bible as I really doubt to know bible is written by Moss and then it written with OT telling some little stories for our example which is not good enough to show. Secondly, I don't believe bible droped from sky. Thirdly, NT christ had never telling about his 14- 30 years of ages because someone felt unsaftely to tell christ between 14-30 and deleted all the chapters.
Fourth, I doubt to know god is everlasting and never ending as I see in our world everythings happenned will beginning and ending. If our life time is 100 years, some of the plant fruitally 300 years, and I will not say the tree is no fruit. As Christ save all of us, does not meaning he save us forever.
If save us forever, means that we committed crime and will be in heaven too.
Actually, heaven or hell are our choice, but we used to not understand all heaven and hell as per our willing and we used to choose the wrong thing.

God has created, is running, and will destroy the Universe. God is the Origin and Destination of the Universe. God was, is, will be everywhere, God was never Created and will never die / be destroyed. God is beyond Life and Death. All religions of world teach human way to get close to God. You give your Best, God will give thy Best. Ask God for help and forgive, God will help and forgive you. Pray; Worship and Thank God for everything. Remember wherever there is Happiness in Life, there will be Sorrow. To get Happiness, you must master Sorrow. For Success in Life; Believe in Self and God, Learn from Past, Concentrate in Present, Plan for Future. Have control on, be the master of, not the slave of your body, senses, and mind. Purpose of this Life is to Gain and Share utmost Knowledge and Experience to differentiate and choose Right, Good, God against Wrong, Bad, Devil. Set your Desire level perfect or OK to be brave, no low to be coward, no high to be cruel. You have rights of Survival, Self Defence, and Freedom.

I want to look to God and His work through men. Of course then working with wisdom, they select the books that should go in. But I wouldn't regard western christians then as 'catholic' in the sense of catholics as they are now constituted. They were christians not some rigidly aligned worshippers of a human religious leader. Jesus is Lord, not any bishop of Rome - and those believers trusted in Christ; it wasn't the Pope who saved them.

Um... your way of explaining this is a little too extreme, but yeah, in the Bible, it does say that God is directing the prophets to do His will. And yes, God did tell those people to write the books.. so indirectly, God did give us the Bible.

It's funny how you said Bibles fall out of the sky... that momentum will surely kill people! (p=m*v.... momentum = mass of bible * velocity... acceleration is 9.81m/s^2... so imagine how fast this thing goes if it fell O_O) 10 pounds + of 4000 years + ancient text falling from the sky! I would imagine that's how apocalypse would go :D (... or not -__-)

Urm... why am I talking about Physics here? And yes, I'm a protestant -__-

The council of Nicene met for quite a few years attended via each and every of the prevalent christians leaders of the time and learn and study each and every of the quite a few manuscripts of the day, rejecting some and which comprise some, some no longer even in the Hebrew Bible. they actually tried to do a great job all of them agreed on the magnificent draft and then the Pope on the time gave it his advantages

The fact that you believe that any man that ever lived on this planet would yield completely to God's will in anything -- including choosing the books of The Bible -- is beyond me. Everyone has an agenda. EVERYONE, including Constantine ... and the members of the Council of Nicea. By your own theology, these men could have been tempted by Satan. And God gives us free will to bow to Satan's temptations or to resist them. Who can say with certainty that's not what happened when The Bible was compiled?
