I mean, Dale Jr. is a very likable driver, but he is the number 1 fan favorite and not even in the top 10 of NASCAR drivers.. any thoughts?

Jr may be the most popular but i came now about 15 other guys who have more talent. JR has proven time after time that him and tony eury get behind on adjustments and cant make the car competitive at the end of the race. Jimmie Johnson won more races in the first 10 races this year then JR has in the past 2 years. Just because he is popular doesnt make him better. So what that he won 2 busch titles? does that mean anything in the cup series? i think not. Is Matt Kenseth announced as the 2time runner up to dale jr for the busch title or the 2003 winston cup champion?

Those who were Earnhardt Sr. fans love Junior because he's Sr.'s son and he carries the name, some love him only for that reason and refuse to favor any other driver because they think they are betraying their love for Earnhardt Sr. Most of those people are redneck hicks and are really stubborn with changing their minds. Some love Jr. because no matter what they will support him and i have no problem with that, that's cool. I think it's just names they like more than good driving because they boo Jeff Gordon nonstop and he wins every race almost (which i despise as well and i am sick of him) and Junior with all his drama and not doing very good in the races gets the hearts of millions because of his name. I don't hate Junior, he's among my top favorites but not because of his name--because he does have the potential but i wouldn't be doing too hot either with all that drama clouding my life. I like junior because he doesn't act like a little prick and he stays cool more than other drivers under pressure.

When you go tothe race track you will be in a sea of all driver fans. Everyone thinks there driver is the best. Bottom line is a real race fan likes good hard racing. A little bump and run don't make you a dirty driver if done properly. A real racer will tell you that second place is just the first looser, and if he accepts 2nd. as a good day, he needs to get into another line of work.

True racing fans appreciate good driving. They may have their favorites, but they respect talent when they see it. You can tell who the real racing fans are by reading the responses on this board.
I'm a Gordon fan, but I have a lot of respect for Earnhardt, Earnhardt Jr., Stewart, Kenseth, etc etc etc..... You'll never hear me say that any of those drivers suck, or something stupid like that. You will however, hear that from many of the people on these boards. You just have to take those answers for what they're worth....not a heck of a lot.

NASCAR fans appreciate many things including effort and ability. One thing I also look at is how they handle adversity. There is no doubt that Jr inherited a lot of his dad's fans after his premature death in 2001 but he had already aquired quite a few before that. I would say that Jr IS a top 10 driver but NOT top 5. A lot of Jr's fans appreciate the way that he carries himself, he's just a regular guy, along with his passion for racing. He would have easily been in the top 10 this year if not for 6 DNFs and a 100 point penalty for a COT infraction that was not his doing.

As a 32 year Stock car driver myself I appreciate gre4at moves on drivers parts--n o matter who it is but alot of fans are so stuck on their driver that everyone else who drives great go unnoticed by the blindness of some fans.

I agree with Wooley Booley, I love good racing. I was very upset that Mark Martin lost Daytona to Harvick, but what a race. My heart was in my throat at the end of the race. I watch for that kind of racing. I love to watch Carl Edwards race anybody because I know how much he loves the sport, as do all the guys who get out there on race day.

Dude, Dale Jr might'nt even accept as true with that. ok for the human beings who point out Kurt Busch and Matt Kenseth, regardless of them having championships, Jr's numbers are with reference to comparable to the two one in each of them(and enable's no longer forget it took a 2-three hundred and sixty 5 days winless streak by using Jr for Kurt to catch up).

Im a racing fan and i enjoy great driving. im a gordon fan and sure he has used the bump and run a couple times to win races but he didnt use the bump and run to win 76 races. I dont consider it good driving when you spin some one out and go on to win the race I.E. Terry Labonte getting spun out 2 times at bristol. one of them, earnhard screwed up and spun him out on the front stretch but then he got "smarter" and spun him out on the back stretch so earnhardt could win. im not a fan of drivin like that. I still think to this day though that the best win was when Jermy Mayfeild gave earnhardt the taste of his own medicine and gave him the bump and run in the last turn at Pocono and went on to win. Thats good driving, not being afraid of on track terrorism and coming out on top.

All fans appreciate great driving though not all would admit it. (Ask any JG hater, lol). But the biggest thing about NASCAR fans is loyalty. Not to names per se but to "Families" and the Earnhardt family has great loyal fans, even if they can be rude and obnoxious. :D
