Since Long Island is mainly suburban, there are certain pockets that have a high concentration of people of color (African-Americans, Latinos) that live in cheaper homes. You'll find that in Hempstead, Freeport, Amityville, Huntington, Brentwood and Wyandanch.

No, not officially, but the So. Shore of Nassau tends to alternate between black and white towns, and there are parts of the No. Shore that are so Waspy, they don't talk to anyone. And one town, on the Sound, where all the landowners have beepers in their cars, so the cops know who belongs there and who doesn't. Bob Hickey

I wouldn't say segregated but you won't find whites in Hempstead and you won't find blacks in Oyster Bay.
