How do you figure? I don't see the cause/effect you're alluding to.
The Church has always been led by the Holy Spirit, and while there are always flaws because humans are fallible, over time the Church makes the right decisions.

Agreed that is one of many flaws in the bible. And to the person who said this didn't count as a flaw by using the stolen poem analogy. This IS actually just like that. The bible HAS been rewritten and changed around many many times. Where is the original version? Each time it has been translated it lost something. Words that occured in the bible that did not have an exact translation were switched around for the purpose of translating the bible. Don't you think that makes it lose something.
Seriously though, I don't believe any of this matters b/c the bible was not written by or inspired by god. So it doesn't really matter to me what words were added or omitted or who chose what books to include in what format. This is a book made by man to control others.

It is recorded in John 14:15-17 that Jesus told the Apostles that he would send a helper, the Holy Spirit, to guide them in their ministries. He says that this helper will reveal the truth and stay with them forever. He says the world cannot receive him because it cannot see him or know him, but the Apostles know him. In John 16:13, Jesus said the this Spirit would lead the Apostles into all truth, and would give Jesus glory because he will take what Jesus says and tell it to them.
The Catholic Church, under this guidance of the Holy Spirit, determined which books were truly inspired works in the 4th century. The Church was adminstered then and is administered today by bishops who come from an unbroken line of succession from the Apostles. The Holy Spirit remains with the Church as Jesus promised.
To deny the teaching authority of the Church is to deny either 1) that Jesus keeps his promises or 2) that the Holy Spirit is capable of leading the Church into all truth and remaining with it forever.
So, yes, the Church had the authority to determine which books were the truth. There were many writings by many people at the time. Anyone could write their opinion of what Jesus did and what it means, and they could call it the Gospel of Fred if they want to. But the guidance of the Holy Spirit allowed the Church to discern which books are truly inspired.

-Not necessarily.
-First, assume there is a God, and he is the God of the Bible.
-If God inspired and is in control of his scriptures, he would influence what went in.
-I've read the books that didn't make it in, they were messed up, and were considered to be written by unreliable sources LONG after the events recorded had occurred.
-Let me stress again how seriously off some of these books are. They are almost funny. I like them. They are like Jesus fanfiction.
-Give the early church council some credit. They tested, read, and thought about all the books that were rejected. Some had already been thrown out by the Jews. They loved God, prayed about it, and were informed. I am sure the decisions were made carefully, with at least decent arguments.
For more info on the other side that you aren't familiar with, check out the dvd or, preferably, the book "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. Or read some of the books that didn't make it in, and read the Bible we have. You will see and even feel the difference.

The early church had nothing to do with the word of God
it was written by Holy men and passed down thur the
ages of time,if it had been changed so much people would have known and told of it,so I think it,s pretty much
the way it was at the beginning.

Read the end of the last chapter of Revelation. It tells about adding to and taking away from the bible. No other books are to be added to and nothing is to be taken away from the bible. When man adds to the bible or takes verses, books, etc. out of the bible, they distort the bible itself and thus, it becomes inaccurate and not the true word of God.

The early church did not decide what would be in the Bible God choose. The Bible is written by God. By the way those who are bashing the Bible read it for a change.

Oh, but you don't understand. The rich old powerful men who decided what books should be in the Bible were "inspired by God!" That's right, they were channeling God....God personally told them what should be in the Bible.
If you believe that, there's a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you....

Could be. Does it matter? Most of the documents that did make it into the Bible are some of the oldest written documents about Jesus we have.
