it was sent to me in my email and it looks like a normal jpg image
but has the .exe on the end

It's probably a virus. Delete it.

Try deleting .exe part of your file
or it could be a virus
try a virus guard like avg

Adrian, tip of the week.
Never, ever,ever, open anyhing unless you know the sender, and even then I am leary because many timthey just pass on someone elses problems.
Remember Never, ever, ever, under any circumstances.

anything with .exe is a program (executable) and clicking on it or running it lets its loose in your system.
i agree with other post, virus potential.
be wary of any unfamiliar files ending in .exe, .bat as these aren't simple files (picture, music, etc)
