By identifying the source of your irritation in general. Some triggers will set you off. If you can identify them you can either avoid or instill coping mechanisms.
By rationalizing your reason for being so short of temper. If you give yourself a few moments to think prior to reacting you may find that you gain fine control of emotive responses such as temper.
I was once a ton of dynamite ready to go off on anyone who ventured into my comfort zone. Now I'm Mister Easy Going and tolerant because I have identified what triggers my anger and have cultivated effective strategies for dealing with every day irritants and their causative factors.
I now act but don't react.

I had/have the same problem. I grew out of most of it. You can't let it control your life think about all of the consequences when you're about to lash out. I suggest getting a notebook and writing your problems down how you feel, destroying things like pillows when you get really upset. Buying a punching bag to attack and taking an e pill every once in a while. NO JOKE!

I do not know what you mean by 'my irritation' as far as your temper is concerned either
1. count to ten.
2. have a smoke.
Get anger management.

its tough, anything like that could be linked to a bigger picture so ask a doctor when you go see him. it literally is about destressing your life, read dont sweat about the small stuff and its all small stuff, it really saved my life, and it made me really think hard about the stuff I said to people. the best on is treat people like they are infants, its tough to talk to people in an irratated way if you just assume they will do things to annoy you.
