This sort of question should be in the Sports > Outdoor Recreation > Hunting area. Beavers build dams fella.

In my office while I was putting on a dental dam before a root canal, it was obviously the first time the patient had come across a thing like this, she pulled my sleeve and said "Did my husband call and tell you do do this as a joke?" We all laughed over that.

A dental dam is put in place to prevent anything going down the throat during treatment and to keep the tooth dry. Basically it is a piece of rubber with a hole where the tooth sticks out. They are all temporary and are removed after treatment. Maybe you mean something else?

The dentist is the best source for this question. It depends on her situation. Go to the dentist and ask them to explain the differences and what is best for your girlfriends mouth.

OK, so I googled this, given the broad responses..... LOL.
It seems 'both' kinds are the same, it's just used for different things.
They're both disposable and not reusable.

FYI, A DENTAL DAM IS ONLY FOR TEMPORARY USE WHILE THE FILLING IS BEING DONE THAT DAY.
