I don't know that for sure.

I speak out regularly that I think there is a God but I know there is no proof. I call that a mind made up, don't you?

Is God a being or an intelligent energy? I don't know; but I think that there was intelligence that initiated life.

Can I be 100% sure there is not some type of intelligent creator out there? nope.

I don't care, either. It is irrelevant to anything I do in my life. It's a waste of my time to think about it because chances are that I will never know.

I don't really care what I'm called either (atheist or whatever).

There are several phases of theology or religion.

Science and religions such as Judaism agree that they need to start by explaining the origin of the universe.

After you decide whether the universe was created in 7 days and whether light did not exist until the 7th day, and so on, then you can consider the origin of all life and specifically the origin of our species.

Some would argue that all you need is faith, or what might be called blind faith.

This contradicts what we know about religious history. The Gutenberg Bible allowed us to read and decide for ourselves.

That's how Christians split from Jews.
That's how Protestants split from Catholics. That's how Puritans split from Anglicans. That's how Mormons and Branch Davidians split from Protestants.

I frequently hear that the point of religion is NOT to save your soul in the hereafter but to provide tangible benefits NOW.

A farmer prays for rain. A sick person prays for health. A business person prays to increase profits. A general prays to win a war.

After you decide on the origin of the universe and our species, you should decide whether you are looking for eternal salvation or trying to obtain something NOW which isn't commercially available.

Along the way you should decide if the flaws in off-the-shelf religions outweigh the benefits. If so, you're on your way to defining a religion which fits you and only you.

Supreme intelligence that designed the heavens putting our galaxy in just the right place, the sun in just the right spot and our planet just the right distance from the sun. Then the moon was in the only place to make life possible.
The human body is a work of art and a miracle. Look at the complex structure of the eye or the hearing.
Then you have a vast array of plant life and animals.
Some great intelligent designer made all these things.
It is foolish to think outerwise.

I wouldn't blame you for being God-cauncious, you can believe that there exists a higher power and not believe in a particular religion. I don't blame you really, science cannot tell you EXACTALLY how life "started" and there are so many religions that it is hard to find one that suits your beliefs. Sure, there could be a God, maybe the religions don't quite have it right either. I don't think that you can get something from nothing, ie "life". I think God sowed the seeds for the universe and life to appear eventually, but being a God that will live forever........whats the rush right?

Yes, we were created by an intelligent being - absolutely! Just look at the way when a baby lamb is born - he instantly knows what to do - and he starts feeding from his mother. Or like how flowers close up at night and blossom anew in the morning, or how our heart keeps beating for decades without ever taking a break! I could go on and on with more awesome examples... but I won't. I personally think that by you recognizing that we were created with intention means that you're already half-way there to believing that we were created and that is a Creator - God. There is proof everywhere that there is a God - just think about it about the possibilities if indeed this is true! I believe 100% in God - I hope one day that you will too - but not forced... for your own sake.

I agree with you. As an agnostic, I don't understand why people feel so much pressure to either take the position of theism or atheism. People don't view agnosticism as a valid religious position, and it irks me.

I happen to think that there could possibly be a God that exists along the lines what deism teaches, but how can someone possibly know that for sure, when you're dealing with a God that doesn't reveal itself to humankind?

The importance is based on what expectations for this life, and what happens after death, are.

If there is nothing after life, then there's no reason to say for certain whether there is or not.

If there is something after life, then it would probably be better to figure out what the laws governing that are and following them. Particularly if the rules include some sort of "entrance requirements" that prevent you from entering if you haven't "done your homework" so to speak.

Higher intelligence and "God" are not the same thing. I tend to think there might be a collective higher order of intelligence that we're all part of. But I feel that calling it "God" is arrogantly assigning it a pre-fabricated, human-invented set of agendas and characteristics based on no information. So I identify myself as atheist.

I somewhat agree with what you are saying. None of us has scientific proof.

And assuming that there IS a God, being omniscient, God would not NEED US to believe, in order to exist.

We can try to convince people if we think it's for their own good... however, they really don't owe it to us to state for sure whether or not they believe.

Faith helps us to live our lives with more contentment and happiness... and if others do not care for that kind of life, why should they feel they have to be involved in it, either for or against?

I suppose I am wishy washy too! I recently read a book called the Celestine Prophecy that focuses on the power of energy that people have...you know Spirituality!

I used to believe 100% in God I am not saying that I dont I just lost hope...so you can say...mostly in mankind I suppose!

I would say that GOD is both intellegent energy and a being...God is part of you he is what you make of HIM!

These religious wars we will find in the end are all just political rhetoric, and that we all WHO DO BELIEVE IN a BEING or God believe in all the same thing...A belief that there is a HIGHER BEING!
and that being in the end I think we will find is all in OURSELVES!

We as a PEOPLE have the potential to raise energies to lifting one another to BELIEVE in EACHOTHER and in MANKIND...
why do you feel so down when the world is killing eachother off...it is because as a mass, our focus is lost and we lose site of helping one another!
