a friend of mine really likes southern comfort and i want to get something that has a similar or better taste that he probably has not tried yet. i need to be able to find it fairly soon, so no ordering or anything like that and it's better if it's easy to find. any suggestions?

hmm, it seems he doesn't like SoCo...he's more of a tequila guy he said, and only drank SoCo because of another friend.

i got him the new stephen colbert book and a philosophy book instead. so you guys can pick the best...thanks for the suggestions though. i don't know one lick about this stuff :/

Southern Comfort Reserve, however, is a blend of Southern Comfort and 6-year-old bourbon and is 40 percent alcohol.

It's a common misconception that Southern comfort is a liquor. Most people think it's a type of whiskey because of its relatively high alcohol content and bite. But it's NOT! It's actually an orange liqueur. Spread the word. Or don't. I don't think most Soco and lime drinkers really care what it is. JKK is right and everyone else is wrong. But that's not surprising because he is a pirate and pirates can't go wrong. Especially when it comes to the subject of Liquor.

Maybe Southern Comfort Black label -- it tastes nearly the same but it's stronger than the Red label. I'm unfamiliar with another drink that is very similar to SoCo -- Gentleman's Jack I believe would be somewhat close.

My husband is a big Southern Comfort fan -- and he doesn't care for other whiskeys. Southern Comfort and Cranberry juice is his favorite . . . maybe just buy him SoCo (because you'll be sure he'll like it) and his favorite mixer.

Southern comfort is a whiskey-flavored liquer. Therefore, getting your friend a whiskey (whether it be a bourbon, scotch, etc.) would not be comparable. I would suggest getting him a bottle of a different whiskey-flavored liquer.

Drambuie is one he may like, although it is very strong, the honey flavor is nice and it is easily found in most liquor stores.

Although Hennessey is not the same by any means, I have found that many of my customers who drink Southern Comfort, also seem to like Hennessey.

Other suggestions would be Grand Marnier, or Bailey's if he likes coffee.

Well, SoCo kind of has it's own unique flavor, not like any other whiskeys in my opinion...

Maybe you should go buy a couple bottles and a bartending book and try out some new SoCo drinks with him? Just a suggestion!

could always get SoCo and also a bottle of Rose's lime juice or one of their favorite mixers. Probably better to go with the tried and true with the liquor and get creative with mixers or some neat glassware or something to go with it.

Maybe not better but an alternative is yukon jack, or Bailey's
