CCleaner (formerly Crap Cleaner) is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It supposed to remove unused and temporary files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster, more efficiently and giving you more hard disk space. If you have used it, does it really work? I am scared to use it because of the fear of downloading a virus.

Its a must have program.

Cleans your PC of leftovers, mostly from browsing the internet. Even cleans out the history of websites you have visited, or the history of files opened. Excellent for protecting your privacy and security.

if uncleaned, your PC will eventually pile up hundreds of megabytes of temporary internet files, robbing you of precious hard drive space.

Waste no time and download it now.

I used Ccleaner b4 but this program doesnt work as great as Regcure! I prefer u go with Regcure

Simple and Safe to Use

RegCure was a project by 70 or so people. The goal was to create an application that can accomplish the complicated task of fixing computer errors, prevent freezing, and boosting the performance of your PC in the most user-friendly way possible. The end result was a click and clean work flow that is so easy to use that even the most novice computer user can handle. All you do is click 'Start Scan', 'Next', and then 'Fix Errors' and voila - Now you have a PC that works like it should!

Does Your PC Take Forever to Load and Often Freezes?

This is one of the most common problems that RegCure can resolve. A slow computer can result from a cluttered registry, a fragmented hard drive, or low RAM. Unfortunately, many people believe that RAM is the reason why their computer crawls. Increasing your RAM can help but I'd suggest upgrading hardware as a last resort. RAM will not fix Windows error messages either. Immediately after you clean your PC with RegCure, you will notice that your PC runs smoothly and those annoying error messages will be gone - no need for upgrading hardware!

Don't Worry - We're here to help fix it!

As your computer gets older, your system registry gets cluttered with keys and your .exe files can get corrupted resulting in Windows errors and a slow performing PC. RegCure takes care of this all by automatically and instantly repairing your system with the click of a button. Simply download, scan, and fix and your PC will be running like new.

CCleaner is an excellent system cleaning tool - you can happily go for it! There are some more free and better tools for the purpose too -
Advanced Windows Care Personal - http://iobit.com/
Glary Utilities - http://glaryutilties.com/

While the above two have many more extensive features, neither is as handy or fast as CCleaner. It will be better if you get all the three tools for your computer.
:)

P.S. To clean obsolete registry with CCleaner, you have to run it's Issues section (the Cleaner section removes all other junk files).

Before you invest in another program, try this checklist to see what you can do for yourself.

1. Set wallpaper and screensavers to blank or none — they run continuously in the background and use memory.
-----right-click on the desktop, select Properties
-----click the screensaver tab, on the left where it says "screensaver," select none.
-----click the desktop tab, for background, select none
2. Review your start menu – remove anything you don’t need on a daily basis — load games, etc. on an as-needed basis.
-----click Start, Settings, Taskbar and Start Menu
-----click the Start Menu tab
-----select a program you do not want to load at Startup, then click remove.
-----Caution -- do not touch anything you are not sure of or you will mess up your computer royally.
3. From Internet Explorer, click Tools, Internet Options: delete cookies, delete files (offline), and clear history. (You can also set days to store history to 0.)
----- These actions will clear your computer’s cache. (For a description of cache, go to http://help.yahoo.com/l/ph/yahoo/mail/access/access-27210.html )
4. Run Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, Defrag at least every two weeks (the more frequently they are run, the less time they take).
-----These can be found in Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools.
5. Periodically, click Start, Programs, Run — then type ipconfig renew
(that’s ipconfig space renew).
6. Optional: Speed vs Goodies — in the Control Panel, System, Advanced, Performance, Settings — you can have visual effects or let Windows select the best options. I am using “Best Performance.” Your choice.
These things should increase speed and free up memory as much as possible.

Very good tool for removing rubbish (crap) files that are not needed by your system. It also has a registry cleaner in the left pane called 'Issues':

I have it on my computer, it works fine, no viruses attached. When you first use it, be careful of what you have checked off to delete until you become more experienced with the program. Good luck!
