DO NOT go out and by a starter kit to learn to be a tattoo artist! If you are really serious about doing this and are a talented artist . . . start by going to any tattoo shops (reputable ones) in your area and tell them you are looking for an apprenticeship. The only way to become a real tattoo artisit is to become an apprentice. This is usually a 1-2 year time spent learning all there is to know about the art and science of tattooing. You could not possibly learn how to do it by buying the equipment or watching a video. Most apprentices don't even pick up a tattoo machine until they have spent 6 or more months of learning the drawing techniques, cleaning the shop, learning about the rules of sanitation and so on. You will propably not even start making any money at it for close to 2 years it is a true apprenticeship or internship. It is not an easy lifestyle or a job you just fall into. It requires a lot of training and skill.
Start at the local shops and see if you can find an artist that will take you on as an apprentice. It would probably help if you bring artwork with you.

You need to apprentice, find someone to take you under their wing (assuming you are 18+, of course). There is no special school that will magically allow you to become a tattoo artist. Take health classes in high school/college, take art classes, and start working on a portfolio to show around to shops. Most people don't get into this profession for the money (the money you make depends on how good of an artist you are), most get into it because they love doing it. Oh, and make sure you have cash. It costs a lot of money to become a tattoo artist

It can be a complicated career. I know of people that before becoming a tattoo artist did some schooling in the arts. To help boost their creativity. I have a friend who went out and bought the equipment and practiced on himself and his brother. To be a tattoo artist you need a portfilo. Sometimes you can luck out and go to a shop with a portfilo of things that already have drawen and they will let you work for them and will show you how to tattoo. Ask around your town. Go into shops and ask questions, how they became tattoo artist, how can you become one, do they ever take apprentices, get them to tell you whta they want. It might be your best shot.

are you artistic!?!?!?!? thats a good start lol.
also, get urself a 'tattoo starter kit'. visit a local tattoo shop in ur area to see if they can give you opinions on which one to choose. they will run about 2 or 300 dollas, but for a really really good one, it will be about 500+. these usually have DVDs to watch, fake skin, lots of ink, the machine, some needles, etc. google it. and go from there. good luck
