Exodus
21:10 If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.
21:11 And if he do not these three unto her, then shall she go out free without money.

So as long as I feed them both, it looks like I'm in the clear. But try explaining that to her, and she clams up. Any suggestions?

Have her read 2 Timothy 2:11-15 and explain that, according to Paul and the New Testament, she can't argue or voice an opinion, and that if she wants to go to heaven, she better get pregnant.

Just a little tidbit for the 'thats the Old Testament' responses that are on the way.

The Bible and its terms is all in reference to the days the book was written in. The description of the temple and the sacrificial ordinances in the Bible are not what we do today, it wouldn't be considered acceptable. Verse 10 could be applied to todays life by saying, treat your current wife with respect, and food, and raiment, and her duty of marriage shall ye not diminish.

You must be confusing the Bible with the Koran, which says you can have up to 4 wives.

While it is true that in old days people had many wives, and the Bible is honest about this, it neither condemns nor condones polygamy. Your Old Testament reference is talking about support, kinda like today's concept of child support. It is not saying you should have more than one wife. Try reading it in context.

In the church, the leaders are to have only one wife, but aren't we ALL leaders, in a sense? Who can honestly say that nobody is watching you?

The New Testament commands a husband to love his wife as Christ loves the Church, meaning that, if she cannot abide you having a second wife, then you, from love, should respect that. If you command her to accept it, then you are not acting out of love of her and are violating Scripture.

You atheists really need to get less predictable and dimwitted. Your questions are as bright as a 700 Club lifetime fan member's would be.

Does it say it is giving you permission, or is it saying "if you do" then you had best do this?

And if you are foolish enough to take on another wife, you deserve them both (or more).

Anyway, it's like Mark Twain said to a Mormon.... "No man can serve two masters."

Having more than one wife became wrong. If you do it you are going to be in the wrong. Just look at the instructions from Jesus that said If we even think of having sex with with anyone one than our mate, that is a sin. Matthew 5:28.

Unless you are willing to live by all the other laws in the OT, you need to update your thoughts. Jump over to the New Testament. It's a quantum leap into a new and better way.

We are no longer governed by the laws of the old testiment but by the new, so if you want to practice celestial marriage you should seek refuge within a mormon community that has these practices.

Real world 1:1 - It is better to listen to your wife and be happy than to try to take a second and be unhappy.

Tell her the new wife will do laundry and dishes..... she may come around :)

My husband has contemplated taking multiple wives, but he says he'd rather not see that look I give him (when he's being a moron) on multiple faces.
