..is it the responsibility of the government to speed up the immigration process so they won't be hypocrits? Speeding up means amnesty. That is what many congressmen want to do but the so-caolled 'we just want them legal" bunch" don't want them that legal so fast. they are racists and hypocrital liars.

Immigrants need to go through the proper channels and the government needs to change and streamline the process. In the past, our immigration policies have been a "what can you do for us" type of policy. That is short sighted in the current world. We know now that people from all walks of life, from all backgrounds can benefit the United States of America.

Most Americans know and respect that we are a nation of immigrants. They just want people coming in the front door instead of crawling in the window, so to speak. Immigrants in the past had to register, take US history and Civics classes and learn english. Immigrants today do not have to do that. If you have nothing to hide, why not register? If you truly want to live in the USA, why not learn US History? If you truly want to be part of this country, why not learn how our governement and political process works? Why not learn the differences between our system and the socialist style systems that drove them away from their home countries?

Prior to 9/11 we Americans sat on our ivory tower thinking what was happening in the world would not happen here. After 9/11 we woke up and would simply like to know who is here so we can protect ourselves if need be. Additionally, most believe if there are going to be laws, they should be obeyed. It is as simple as that. It has nothing to do with race, ethnicity or culture.

You refer to Mexican Immigrates, there are alot more people than just Mexicans that fit into that picture. You refer to amnesty as the way they want to make people legal, that is already taking place, maybe not exactly the way it should but it is. Many years ago before anyone entered the United States they had to have a sponsor, that doesn't happen now days. In no direct order-our State and Government forms and information is not just printed in English. but in different languages so they understand, when they apply for papers to become U.S. citizens, it's in their own language so again they can understand. There are many other problem areas, but every opportunity you get to vote down any and all means of giving anything away just to make it easy for these congressmen to resolve these problems do so or forever more every taxpayer will be paying.

The problem with that statement is the fact that they already broke the law. Speeding up the immigration process DOES NOT mean amnesty, what it means is hiring more people and simplifying the process without cutting any corners.

There is a portion of illegals that we don't want here at all, ones that we don't want to give amnesty to, ones who SHOULD be deported.

Citizenship SHOULDN'T be easy, getting a greencard also SHOULDN'T be easy. If people could get here legally quick and easy we would be overrun with foreigners and we ALL would be miserable. It wouldn't just be Mexicans either, we have people from all over the world that would LOVE to come here, even those who wouldn't be able to support themselves.

what makes you think speeding up the process means amnesty?
there are immigrants from all over the world in the US that have gone about it the legal way.
we should not make exceptions for Mexicans, just b/c they're Mexican.
It has absolutely NOTHING to do with racism. It's about applying the same standards to ALL immigrants, whether they be Mexican, Japanese, Swedish, or whatever.
I really get sick of people like you pulling the race card every time they don't get their way.

Whoa... many Americans support a guest worker program during which time an illegal could apply for citizenship. Others say no, go back home and come back legally and then work wherever you want. They want legal entry to begin with, but no automatic amnesty just because they are already parked here and picking oranges.

You are armed with a little information and your own narrow opinion of how the entire nation thinks, and that is a very dangerous scenario. You become what you despise... a hypocrite.

You can't just "speed up" the immigration process and no that doesn't mean amnesty. This country can only take so many people, only so many jobs, only so many house and we can't just let tons of people into the country every year.

Immigrants need to understand that millions want to come here but we can't take all of them right now. Wait your turn! You don't have a natural born right to come to the US!

We are growing faster then ever before in history.

Our population WILL reach 400 million in just a few decades WITHOUT any additional immigration - just what we have now.

Why do you think we are so stupid that we would actually WANT something like you propose. Only an idiot can't see that those increases are unsustainable, will ruin our social systems, bankrupt our medical, ruin our schools and turn this country into a 3rd world cesspool.

Nice try but there are at least 3 BILLION people who want to come here - Why should we let any more in then we already do? There are no positives for the majority of citizens, only higher taxes, less open space, more congestion, more noise, more pollution, higher commodity prices and a lower standard of living.

Not true. There are rules and laws in place that should be FOLLOWED!!!! These laws are for the benefit of all involved.
Get a clue and do some research before you ask your next question!!

Who said the responsible citizen wanted to pay for the criminals!!!!!! I don't. You don't.. Let's just gas 'em all!!!!!!! any criminals, any illegals, anyone without respect and breaks the law for ANY reason...
People make mistakes.. We need to come up with better punishment, stop lettin' people get away with breakin' the damned laws. Make people financially responsible for the money they knowingly steal from legal citizens. go ahead and gas murderers and pedophiles!! and make the families and countries of these lawbreakers financially responsible too.
Maybe then people would do a better job raisin' kids, and stop breakin' the law themselves......

Government's responsibility should be to take care of American Citizens and NOT criminals such as illegals!!!!!
If the process is to go faster then illegals need to be deported and then go in the BACK of the line and WAIT because other immigrants who are going through the NORMAL and LEGAL process are ahead of them!!!!

It is NOT about being racist or hypocritical. It is about doing what is RIGHT!!!!!!!

Amnesty is not automatic citizenship, and it shouldn't be. It shouldn't exist at all. I agree that we need a guest worker program, and the fine is a good idea. Also I don't think anyone realizes how hard it can be to get a visa. America must rethink its immigration laws, and for those harping about taking care of criminals, you do realize how much money we spend on the people in our prisons, right?
