so i work for a real estate company and lately people are just being jackasses. i JUST got off the phone with one. this guy called and said he's sitting in front of a home and wants some info on it. so i asked him for the address and i looked it up in our database and told him "that is [agent]'s listing, she's not in the office at the moment, but i can transfer you to her cell phone" and he just gets this attitude and says "tell me how much it is" and i tell him i dont have that info, all i have is who's listing it is so i can transfer people to the right agent (which is a lie, i have all the info, but its against the law for anyone without a realestate license to give out info on any home for sale, thats why we have to direct them to the agent. so the guy tells me thats the dumbest thing he's heard and he wants the main desk, i tell him i am the receptionist, thats all the info i have, he needs to talk to the agent to get details. and the guy calls me a b*tch and hangs ups! wtf?

Its the wrong understanding of " unschooled "customers of the clique- "Customer is always right" .They make it to mean because we are selling (receptionist are front end marketer )something and would like to do business with them , they could B*#S us all they want . They don't understand that a good relationship and respect for each other (customer- marketer)could mean their more understanding of the product he intends to buy before making that final decision . Sales people are not beggars but a very good source of information about the product he plans to buy before he makes that buy decision . It's always a win-win formula for both buyer and seller to understand and respect each other so when the buyer purchase the product he could fully enjoy the features and its benefits .
As in any relationship , what makes the relationship successful for both parties is equal respect .

I've had many different jobs working with the public, and it's always the same. People are very rude and self-centered. They could care less about the person on the phone, behind the counter, etc. The best you can do for yourself is to just forget about the jerk, he's not worth getting your blood pressure up over. Just have the satisfaction of knowing that there are many of us who have been in your shoes and totally understand. Believe me, there are more important things to think about than some ignorant idiot! So cheer up and smile!
Here's something to help, it's bound to cheer you up!

You seem to be dealing with the grandchildren of the '60s, i.e., those who were reared without learning manners or common courtesy.
You see evidence of this in your phone service position, on the highways, in restaurants/theaters/etc with their cellphones and bluetooth junk...
Policy at my job is to:
1. Inform the caller that he is being rude and that the call will be terminated if he does not stop being rude/using foul language/etc
2. Terminate the call if caller does not comply.
BTW, our phone incoming lines are monitored/taped so we have a witness of sorts should the rude dude make a complaint.
Don't forget to document everything if you should do this and to inform your supervisor of the incident.

This is a lot to do with the way that people are reared.
Everyone is dashing around, working, earning money and not giving enough time to instill values and manners into their children.
Sad that those little spoiled brats of 20 years ago are now today's adults!
You handled the situation perfectly.
Well Done!

Some people have nothing better to do with their time. I think it's actually their mission in life to piss people off.
I used to work in a camera store. It irritated me everyday that customers would only speak to the male sales assistants for what they considered to be technical help. I wear the same uniform and get paid the same amount, why? because I actually know what I'm talking about!
Don't worry about your ridiculous customers, I'm always glad that I am mature enough to be above them and not react negatively to their behavior. I believe that God or fate or karma will deal with them.

People seem to get ruder and ruder as the days go by.
A lot of people I encounter are way too revolved around themselves. Everything is ME ME ME.
As tough as it is, don't take it personally. Just remember that you don't like to be treated that way & make sure that you don't treat others rudely yourself.
I think that if people just started being nicer to each other, we would eventually have a much more peaceful world.

I think you did exactly the right thing. Oh, you might have explained that the law forbids you from giving that information, but that probably wouldn't have changed the man's attitude.
Look at it this way. You probably saved the neighbors from living near this moron, and they will never know it. Than you for them.

My granny always said, "you can get more flies with honey than you can lemon." lol I'm not saying I don't loose my cool from time to time, but I try to direct my anger on the right person lol.
