Last time I checked every atheist I ever met knew what science was at least in some form and believed finding truth to be a worthy goal. Is this not enoth to believe in or would you want more?

It would be absurd.

What would happen is that the fundies would try to tie the acceptance of evolution to the "religion" of atheism, and then get it kicked out of schools as being "religious" teachings.

It couldn't be because it is not a way of life, has no rules or regulations or guidelines and is nothing more than a disbelief in the supernatural. Most Atheists don't give a second thought to the existence of God, they just never have and never will believe it to be true. The Atheists like myself who frequent places like these have an interest in the religious, psychological and sociological aspect of those who believe in an invisible creator and his beard.

declaring Atheism a religion would be like declaring creationism a science.

I didn't 'choose' to be called atheist. It's simply descriptive 'without theism'. Although your scenario isn't so far fetched. There are many who claim to be atheists including many here who act as though they already are an organized group. I see every day some saying "we atheists..." and speaking as though we're a homogeneous group.

At any rate I'll let others spin out of control over that. If it happened I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. It would be a bigger thing for theists since they have been desperately working to get the word classified a religion. You can see them here in fact working the propaganda machine and screeching like 5 year old girls "It already is a religion."

I'm guessing theists would be so happy they would sacrifice a goat if it happened.

If the definition of "religion" changed so that atheism was considered a religion, it would open the doors for all kinds of things to be declared religions, like not believing in Santa Claus.

It cannot be. A religion has to have a singular basis on which to form. Atheism is just the rejection or non-acceptence of the existence of any god or gods.

i did not study the question body even though it would not replace something. i trust extraterrestrial beings exist. i trust there are small styles of existence on an excellent style of planets. i don't think of that they are going to get the following each and every time quickly regardless of the truth that. From what i have studied you opt for therefore large ******* advanced technologies to commute via area like that is portrayed in sci-fi that or you opt for to wrinkle area and time. yet I surely do not imagine everybody, regardless of in the adventure that they are more suitable advanced than we are, have that. we may be able to verify three hundred billion (or is it million) gentle years round us. it really is a pin prick compared to the packed with area and we are able to not even make it that some distance. yet in the adventure that they did happen i might want to welcome them(assuming they are non violent) and attempt to get the international to do a similar. EDIT-Why can we immediately anticipate that something "unusual or mystical" or something that we undeniable do not comprehend is more suitable advanced? I surely might want to anticipate that perchance some progression yet have you ever study something on how complicated it would want to be to commute billions and billions of sunshine years and nonetheless be alive by technique of the time they were given there? also, in basic terms because they could be extraterrestrial beings would not propose that they could stay thousands and thousands of years. possibly growing old massive difference yet yeah. it really is my argument. i have looked all this stuff up. i trust that there are extraterrestrial beings. in basic terms no longer contained in the Sci-Fi we are so a lot more suitable ideal than you way. i did not say they were immortal regardless of the truth that. i'm in basic terms asserting that the technologies to commute area like we settle on to is rather damn advanced. definite, different civilizations on different planets would have it although that is fairly not likely. you may want to really ought to wrinkle time OR placed human beings into stasis and performance an autopilot deliver. nonetheless, that is style of improbable to me. yet to each and every their very personal.

I'd still be a Pagan, and I'd call myself non-theistic.

You can change the definition, if you want, but it doesn't make it a religion.
