Matthew 24:21-22 (King James Version)

21For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

22And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

For all who believe in the rapture please explain these two scriptures. I don't understand how the days are shortened for the elect if the elect are to been raptured before the great tribulation.

The elect are God's chosen people. The elect (GOD'S CHOSEN) will still be here during the tribulation because the rapture will NOT happen before hand.

The therory of the RAPTURE is a lie from the false prophet. It is not in the scriptures nowhere that Jesus will ever come get any saint before the great tribulation.

He will return for everyone immediately after the tribulation.

Matthew 24:29-31
29Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Matthew 13:24-30 & 36-43
24Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
25But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
26But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
27So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
28He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
29But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
30Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

36Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
37He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
38The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
39The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
40As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
41The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
43Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Yes I know the word rapture Isn't In the Bible. But neither Is the word Bible. But we still call It that.
This Is the Great tribulation you're speaking of.
If you're truly born again you'll go In the rapture.
God has not appointed us unto wrath.
The first half of the tribulation Is 3 and a half years,then the so-called peace treaty Is broken by the anti-christ.
Then sudden destruction will come upon the earth as has never been before or ever shall be.
This Is the last (3 and a half yrs.) part of the tribulation you're speaking of. Jesus will return and put a stop to all war and satan will be bound for a thousand years. But If you're a born again believer you won't go through this. You'll take the first flight out.
Get ready for the most historic event to ever take place on this earth.The Bible speaks of 7 raptures.

Oh! We've been studying this in Sunday School recently. There is NO evidence in the Bible to support Christians being taken off the earth before the "7 years' tribulation" starts. It seems to indicate, however, that sometime in the latter half of this period Jesus will return for His own children. I think that the passage here is referring to the fact that God won't let the "tribulation" run its full 7-year course because nobody would survive it. I could be wrong though.

The tribulation you are referring to happened in 70 A.D. with the Destruction of Jerusalem. The shortening of the days is not a rapture. The Second Coming of Christ is yet future though.

I think the notion of the "rapture" is an escape hatch for the people who have convinced themselves that world is going to end in their lifetime.

They've persuaded themselves that all this "tribulation" business is apt to be rather uncomfortable, and would rather there were some way to slip out the back door without having to go through it.

I am not like the normal Christian that tends to lead with their words that when it gets a little rough that the Lord is going to just yank us out. My mentality has always been that it cost Jesus "everything" to give us Eternal Life, so where did this concept come that it is supposed to be easy, without cost for us.......Satan, that's who. But you first have to understand that the Great Tribulation is God's holy wrath against all unsaved men, Christians WILL NOT endure God's wrath for Jesus' blood on the cross was our Sacrifice. However, the tribulation that is happening now in many parts of the world where Christians are being killed, tortured, imprisoned will increase as the days progress, not one single Christian, me included, is exempt from much tribulation that is coming that is the brunt of Satan's doing against Jews and Christians. As we see today with the homosexual agenda trying to make speaking God's word a "hate-crime." One Pastor in China has already been imprisoned for calling sin "sin." During this time of MUCH tribulation that verse 22 speaks of in your question is indeed talking about Christians today, in our neighborhoods, Pastors in our Churches, that will be tested greatly to see if we truly posess who we profess. Sadly, more people who label themselves Christians will be shown to actually be tares ( unsaved ) not wheat (saved ) because they are spirtually spineless in today's day of somewhat calmness. Therefore, when the tribulation escalates, they will not be able to stand because of a lifetime of compromising God's truths for worldly comforts. It will get so bad, as Scripture says, that God will have to intervene for the elect's sake, otherwise we would all perish. So, it's time to quit procrastinating and put on the armour of God daily and fill your heart, lives with His Word so that you will endure. God Bless!

The "elect" isn't talking about the raptured church. It's only talking about the "best and brightest" of those left behind after the Rapture and the few converts of the 144,000 ministry that might be decieved.

If you keep looking at those verses and thinking about what they could mean, you will eventually come up with something that sort of makes sense and doesn't go against what the rest of the bible says. This is considered (only by believers) to be the same thing as truth.

Could I urge you to look at the bible a little more critically?

I haven't looked these scriptures up so I'm going off memory which is poor so don't hold me to this, but I think this is referring to the 144,000 (twelve tribes of Israel) that will be sent for the ones left behind that did not believe. They will be sealed with God's mark, and cannot be affected by Satan. They will be here to teach/preach to the non-believers.
