I just got a ticket for a fender bender, i want to plead not guilty and i am sending it in for a court date, but the cop did not write a ticket number on my ticket. what can i do? does that mean the ticket is invalid now or something? The envelop i have to send to the court needs my ticket number. do i leave it blank?

Do not confuse a ticket number with a police report number. Every state I know of has tickets that have the individually pre-printed ticket number in large numbers right on the front of the ticket.

There is NO way there is no ticket number on it.

Without seeing the ticket, it would be difficult to answer your question. Some states have gone to automated tickets that print out on a computer. The only way to find out for sure is to go to the department the ticket was issued.

You need to consider a not guilty plea carefully, when it involves a traffic accident. If you plea guilty, or get found guilty, the traffic ticket can be used against you in a civil court, if the other party sues.

If you plea no contest, you will be found guilty by the court, but the ticket can not be used in a civil trial. However, this will give you a chance to explain any unusual cirucumstances to the judge.

You should think about what the officer has to prove, and if he can prove it . I realize I wasn't there and you were, but you have a serious disadvantage if you get found guilty, especially if someone got hurt.

The ticket should have a stamped number on it. The tickets are all in sequential order. The ticket is valid. If you have further questions, call the police agency that gave you the ticket.

Traffic summons (tickets) are normally preprinted and controlled by the state therefore it SHOULD have a number already on it where the officer isn't required to place a number on it!

I'm sure if you take the document you have with you to the nearest law enforcement agency in your area, they will be able to help you with any question you have!
