Who ever asked if I was lookig for trendy: I'm Heathen. I have my path and my gods called me. It's not a trend I assure you. LOL
And yeah you guys would be REALLY surprised at the reason's people "follow" Wicca. They have no clue what they are doing. They really make Wicca look bad.

I'm going to say three things are-
1. the confusing of "Pagan" as a single religion - and people who claim it.

2. Asatru- I've seen that running rampant lately - and seens some awfully fluffy folks in it.

3. And I just lost it - what the hell was the third one? Bah - I'll come back if I remember it and edit this.

ANY set can be fluffy and trendy, IMO.

I say anyone who claims to know it all from just one book - or IRAB, as raven said, is to just be patted on the head and told "that's nice, dear. Have a cookie."

(Raven - here's a new one for you - IROTI- I read it on the internet)

Problem - wish we could tell you that, but I've seen too many "Mall Witches" in my day to be amused anymore. People do go to religion as a trend, just like buying new fall clothes.

I think the next trendiest "religion" besides Wicca would be Buddhism. It is often considered a "peace loving" religion (although it's really not) and those that would follow Wicca because it's earth based would also follow Buddhism - even though they know as little about it as they do Wicca. I personally don't believe Asatru will become a "trend" religion based on Beowulf. I mean, the 13th Warrior was based on Beowulf and how many Asatru wannabes came out of that? I'm not sure about this new movie supposed to come out, but is there mention of the gods? Is there something that attracts wannabes like magic in Wicca? Not really. Its not peace loving, and those really involved in Asatru have NO problem arguing to someones face about anything. Wiccans tend to believe to agree to disagree without a fight. This allows for the "fluff" to fall through the cracks.

Celtic. Not Recon as most Recon's don't go for the trendy bullshit. Recons normally work more from an educated view. But the general Celtic paths have become very trendy and I think it's because a lot of it is used in Wicca and those who don't fall in with the Wiccan ideas will normally fall in with the Celtic ones (since Celtic is a very broad term used for many different cultures in Europe).

I can't say I've seen a trendy Asatru yet and it's not as popular as people think. I can find plenty of Wiccans, Celtic Pagans and Eclectic Pagans in my area, but only one Celtic Recon and absolutely no Asatru (for at least an hour's drive from me and that group won't even consider outsiders lol)

Some Wiccans have a right to be frustrated. They're outnumbered by the Fluffies (which are ALL over N KY).

Paganism isn't there to be trendy. If people become Pagans because they think it's trendy, they have taken it up for the wrong reasons, regardless of the path.

Impeyan Link - Oh my good Goddess!!! Wicca is almost unheard of in the UK????????? Are you joking??????????? Hello?? Gardner?? UK is the home of Wicca. Anything the Frosts chucked out in the 70's is an abomination and is nothing like real Wicca.

Well said, Labgirl!

Wicca itself isn't trendy.

What *is* trendy is

* no one can define Wicca for me

*it's anything I want to call it

* IRABO ***

* pop-"wicca"-lite

* excuse for dressing "goth" and wearing tons of jewelry

* "Wicca" that throws together a little bit of pseudo-Native American 'shamanism' (without doing the WORK); the conviction that the Rede means "Don't ever do any harm to anything, ever" and beating other people over the head with this *false* understanding whenever anyone disagrees with them; saying "All Goddesses are One Goddess" and "All Gods are One God" and ultimately all deities are aspects of the One, because you can't be bothered to learn about or work with specific deities; and not bothering to rename what you do, however loosely based on the original form, because you want to ride on the coattails of people who went before and claim some sort of lineage regardless of the lack of similarities between what they did and what you do

nonsense that people *think* is Wicca.

Similarly, actual Kabbalistic discipline is not trendy, but the pop-Kaballah stuff is.

"Telling a non-Christian that she's going to "burn in hell" is like calling offsides on the *spectators* at a football game"

coming from a Wiccan I would have to agree that the concept of Wicca has become very trendy but there are so many out there that are not Wiccan they just claim to be but that happens with any religion, It is very different to claim to be something than it is to follow, but I would have to say this happen more in the christian community that any other, I do appriciate the compassion though there are a lot of people out there that know very little about wicca and it makes it hard to be as forthcommming with out realigion as the Christians are, hey maybe we should go door to door handing out our literature, and tring to gang save people too, wonder what they would think of that. HA HA HA

What really grinds my gears about the whole "Charmed" thing is that they weren't even Wiccan, regardless of what words they threw around.

Unless I'm mistaken and someone can point out to me even ONE mention of the God and Goddess...?

(And don't even get me started on Willow from "Buffy"... Witch? Yes. Wiccan? Not a chance in hell, no pun intended.)

Outside of Wicca, I'd probably have to go Kemetic (or Kemetic-based), because of the fascination with the ancient Egyptian Gods. How many people wear an ankh of some sort, and how many actually understand why and what it means?

Asatru I think because of the huge metal following. Unfortunately the kids are getting themselves into it for the wrong reasons and the gods are not often pleased. Granted the Norse pantheon are far more easy-going than the Greco-Roman one but being whacked upside the head with a hammer hurts just the same.
That's why I stay a Happy rather eclectic Pagan.

"Non-Wiccan Witchcraft"
You know, the kind where they do EVERYTHING that the pop culture version of Wicca claims we Wiccans do, and a few things we actually do, and then go "I'M NOT WICCAN! OMGWTF!11Eleventy-one.I'm a third generation twelfth levle blood witch by birth from the ancient estruscanids."

Would it be snarky to say "And whatever you want to call what Silver Ravenwolf and the Frosts do, because they sure aren't Wicca."?

Edit: With the recent spate of Beowulf movies, especially the AWFUL Beowulf and Grendle, you can expect Asatru to be the next trend....good luck with that.

The next most popular would have to be recon religions. I know that coming right out of being Wiccan, I heard a lot about Recon religions. Of the Recon religions, Asatru and Hellenismo seem to be the most popular.
