I'm not going to get very much from the federal government or scholarships, and my parents aren't paying for college. Does anyone know which banks/lenders have a good reputation for offering manageable student loans? I live in Indianapolis, IN.

And FYI, because I'm under 23 and I'm unmarried with no dependents, I'm still considered a dependent by the U.S. Department of Education (even though I've established 1 year of independent residency). There's apparently nothing I can do about this. That's why I'm not getting a lot of federal aid. I've already crunched the numbers and I NEED a private loan.

Things have changed drastically in the last few months in financial aid, I would check with my financial aid office to see if they still have a lender list that they could share with you. They will NOT be able to recommend one for you, but they do know who provides good services. I would stay away from credit unions, because they will NOT be in the student loan industry in the near future. Stick with the larger lenders, because the smaller more local ones will not be able to compete in the market either.

Just fill out your fafsa and say you are interested in the subsidized and unsubsidized load. If you find that is not enough you can also add on a private loan such as sallie may, or great lakes. I would definatly see what the fafsa does first though. Also you need to tell your parents that if they are not going to help you pay for your college that they shouldn't claim you as a dependent that way you get that financial aid by claiming yourself you'll get more grants.

As for student loans, i imagine Byblos monetary employer supplies this servince .. possibly there're more suitable banks, yet Byblos monetary employer marketed it on television for a lengthy time period ...
