Its been a month since my being at my job for a year and I have not recieved a review for a raise or to see what I am doing wrong or right. Despite the fact that I work as a receptionist at a car dealer ship I am still entitled to a raise! How do i go about by asking for this? I know I can do it but I don't want to make it seem like I think I deserve it...even though I know I do as well as the guys and people that I work with that are not my managers. The girls in the office are so clicky and it seems like they have forgotten that its been a year for me..even though on my one year I brought in begals and cookies for all the people that I work with..which is well over 100 people. Not to say that I was doing that to butter them up into giving me a better raise..its just what I do...but anyways my question is..would you bring it up to your bosses if it was a month past your one year mark?

You definitely need to give your boss/supervisor a reminder regarding your review. S/he probably just forgot. With 100 employees working there, it would be hard to remember each person's anniversary date. But don't count on a raise just because you've been there a year - it's not a "given". The most important thing about a review is that there is something in writing in your employee file saying you are doing your job well (I assume) and it protects you down the road if they try to say you are not doing well. And it gives you some constructive criticism in order to improve your performance.

Yes. You can ask to schedule a meeting with your boss. If, by chance, he forgoes the meeting and suggests that you take a few minutes to chat, be sure to go to his office, close the door if you can for more privacy, and present your concerns. You don't have to ask for a raise, but you could initiate the conversation by telling him that you have been there for a year, and you were wondering how they viewed your performance, if they viewed areas where you may need improvement, perhaps they felt you were improved in certain areas, and some type of evaluation would enable you to gain confidence in your strong areas, and give you guidance to work on your weak areas.

Let your boss bring up the raise part. Unfortunately, just because you work someplace for a year does not entitle you to a raise. Sad, but true. But they are nice, especially with the cost of living going up and up and up.

You can certainly ask for an annual review, if that is something they do for all employees. You say, "I have been here for over a year now, and I was wondering when my annual review would take place?" Don't assume, however, that this necessarily means that you would get a raise. There is no such thing as "entitled" to a raise!

Go to your boss and ask if your performance review will be coming up soon. Say that you just want to make sure you are prepared to discuss your job. Sometimes things get so hectic the boss forgets all about performance reviews, so it wouldn't hurt to give a gentle reminder.

"I've been here over a year now, and I thought performance reviews were done after one year. I just wondered if mine was coming up so that I can prepare myself for it."

You can certainly ask anytime you want, but be aware of this: in the U.S., you are not "entitled", legally speaking, to a raise at all, unless there are specific, written company policies in place governing raises. Or, unless you are a private contractor, but if you walked in, filled out an application and got hired, you are not a contract employee.

By all means though, don't be afraid to step up and ask if you feel you deserve it.
