I should have had someone else doing my taxes, because for the last 2 years, I've been owing money instead of getting a refund. Everyone keeps telling me that I shoud be getting a refund.

You only get a refund if you had more withheld than you owe - it's very possible that you don't have a refund coming - "everybody" might be wrong. But if you did do something wrong, then you can file an amended return on form 1040X and correct it.

If you'll post more info here - how much you made for a year, was it on a W-2 or not, how much was withheld for federal income tax, do you have any dependents, your marital status - somebody can probably give you an idea if you should have had a refund or not.

You can submit an amended return. However, there are time limits. You can only amend returns for past so many years (5??, I forget). You can probably find this info online. Since you have already done wrong in the past, it is better for you to let a tax service review all the incorrect returns. For the future, do your returns at a tax service. If your returns are fairly basic, you can use TurboTax online also. I do, it is cheaper than a tax service, but just as good.

You can always file an amended return.

If you go to some of the tax services they will review your previous returns for you.

Some tax places will review priors years returns for free.

However, if they do find and error and you wish to amend the return, there will be a charge.
