My new colleagues loved to talk dirty and share bedroom jokes. I don't think this is appropriate behaviour especially in the office but I try to be a sport.
I wonder if this happens in your place of work and how do you handle such a situation.

Thanks to Tony for pointing that out, about being uptight.
Perhaps I should try to be a little lenient with my colleagues now. Although in my line of work, saving lives is no laughing matter.

yes, but we are careful to only do it with people who we know won't feel uncomfortable.

I had a similar situation. I work in a small office (15 people), all these guys are buddies, and there are only 2 females in the office. One day while they were "talking", I casually said, "it's a good thing that I'm cool with this, as it could be taken as sexual harrassment" and just kinda laughed it off. We don't really have an HR department. But they did say, 'Oh, if this is really offending you, we'll stop".

It really wasn't offending me, but it was getting a bit much for mixed company.

If you feel uncomfortable, dont join in. Sometimes too much personal information can be inappropriate especially in the workplace. There are co-workers not your best friend so I would be careful about how much personal information I shared. As to dirty jokes, that could be considered sexual harrassment which has gotten people fired in the past. Take the high road and keep it professional.

If you feel it's not appropriate, then never put yourself in a compromising position, even if you have good intentions. You don't want to hang around and wind up saying something that you'll regret later to fit in. At my job, this is absolutely not discussed, but sometimes people say things that I think are crass. I just chalk it up by saying "Yall are so crazy" with a smile and walk away to do some work. They know how I am and don't expect me to join in. They are are able to enjoy the parts of my personality that they have in common with me instead.

No I do not.
And I would not be a good sport when something is eating at me, such as this behaviour.

There are some people who love to do this, what I find is they are mostly sex starved people. They talk sex to make up for the lack of it.
This is true.

If you are offended by sexual jokes at work, that is a form of sexual harassment (it's called hostile work environment) and it is against the law.
Tell them to stop, and tell your boss that you are offended. If you boss is one of the joke-tellers, then go to his boss, or report it to your human resources office.
You have the right to a workplace free from sexual harassment.

by doin this ur colleague is walkin a thin line -- did u tell him/her u find this type of communication out of line ?/ if not do it -- if u did telll him/her again and let them know that (1) u do not approve of this type of speech, (2) unless they change their communication u will report it to management and let the bosses get involved -- remember sexual harrasment is illegal and this is sexual harrasment (if they are aware of ur wants/or diswants)... good luck
