Here's the deal, it is not the job of the government to ban everything that has the potential to be abused.

Sure, some people get hooked on gambling, and gamble way too much, as you evidently did. But if we banned all forms of gambling it would cost several hundred thousand people their jobs. Taxes would need to be raised in other ways. We would be on our way to creating a nanny state where the government controls everything 'bad.'

Casinos are opening because of public demand. People want access to them, and so they should be allowed to open. Some people will suffer by squandering their money in them. But that's just tough luck. They made their choices, and they must live with the consequences.

We currently sell cigarettes, that we know will kill people. We sell dip, which is even more dangerous. We sell cars that can go over 100 mph, and thousands of people are killed and maimed by them. We sell alcohol, which is physically addictive, and causes thousands of deaths each year. Our doctor's prescribe pain killers that people get addicted to.

The list is almost endless of things that people can abuse. We can't ban it all in a free society.

I applaud you for the steps you are taking to give up gambling.

I live in a town where casinos are abundant. We have a depressed economy in our small community and many are on public assistance and really should not be spending money at the casinos, but they do. As a result, we are all affected. It is a losing situation.

In our area the casinos only have to pay out 38% of the money they take in. Most people will just put that 38% right back into the casino, rather than taking it home with them. Most are looking for that big win, or trying to win back what they have lost. It is really sad. The casinos are the only ones making any money. Just look at their fancy facades, their hotels and their bright lights. Your money, and mine made all that possible.

Most people do not gamble responsibly and lose their homes, their jobs and even their families as a result of gambling. It is an addiction and takes milk right out of a baby's mouth. I know some of these people, and it took losing something more precious than gambling for them to wake up, as you have.

Hang in there. You have done something wonderful for yourself, and I wish you the very best. You will now see what your money can do for you.

I wish you luck on your recovery. Yes, casinos are becoming a way of life for Americans. There are new casinos going up each and every day. Vegas is easily the biggest vacation desintation of the average American.
I personal don't have a gambling problem and enjoy going to casinos as much as possible. America's future will be effected by these casinos. They will make many casino owners rich and provide a lot of pleasure for casino patrons, but yes there will inevitably be increased problems with gambling addictions and people betting WAY beyond their means.

No, I think all the Americans going to the casinos is encouraging them.
My parents use to go 1-2 a week, finally they realized they were dumping money into the casino coffers and stopped, they go once every 2-3 months or so for fun, maybe spend $50 a piece and have fun with it.

The biggest problem with so many casinos being built is that studies show that a casino built in a non tourist area - other than Vegas, for example, actually cause in increase in home foreclosures and the crime rate. People have to control themselves and it is not up to the government to do that but on the other hand gambling should either be legal or illegal. If a casino is legal, it should also be legal for you to set up a casino in your back yard for you and your neighbors to play and gamble and it would be easier to see if someone is having a problem with spending too much money gambling but if it is illegal for you to do that, it should also be illegal for a corporation, or a state, to build a casino in order to take your money.

i think it fairly works the two procedures, based on the situation of the tribe. for occasion: If the tribe has it rather is on line casino(s) in close proximity to resident residences i think of you will discover extra close by individuals with the two playing or eating problems. additionally, those supposedly effective clinics operated by ability of the tribes that are on reservation grant a powerful source of methadone for the addicted individuals, this would seem to be a powerful element till you're nevertheless using, plus they get their weekly restoration legitimately. on the plus element there are a number of NA's that are employeed using casinos. the choice to stay on the reservation is deminishing, which i think helps the member assemilate into society. rather; the casinos are no longer helping or hurting, i think of they stability out the plight of close by individuals that are nevertheless residing in yet another technology.
