it doesn't! it seems to me that most christians think we actually love God, we have just fallen out with him, like naughty children.
according to God, we could say what we want, then repent on our deathbed and get into the heaven club. The real reason for all this "you will go to hell" is to make us scared of being without God, so we become one of them. It also seems to me, from this site, that there are more Atheist turning Cjhristians than vice versa, what does that imply? I don't know, but it makes you think that they might feel like they are being backed into a corner, which would explain all the antipathy toward our philosophy.

God is love, but He is also the God of judgment.
Becasue He loves us, He does not want to any to perish.
That is why that He made provision for us to be saved.
He told us that we need to repent of our sins and live by His words (the Bible).
God is Holy (perfect), we are not.
We can not come into His presance like we are.
We need to have our sins forgiven.
We need to ask Him to forgive us.
Than we will be ready to live with Him for eternity.
If you have a child, and that child is going to play with knives or guns or fire (any thing that can harm the child, some one else or property), would you not instruct the child, and if they were disobediant would you not disaplin the child (The Bible is our instuctions, and God will disaplin us). Now if the child kept being rebelious, would you let them drive your car, or have unsupravised parties in your house? Would you leave your money or valualbes around it they started to take them to pay for things they want? What if they started to abuse you, would you let them do what they want? If they started to kill your friends and family would you let them because that is what would make them happy?
You see why God has given us rules.
Not all of them are about things as obvious (at least to us) as those above, but they are a part of God's laws, and to brake them is to rebel against Him.
And even thou He still loves us, He can not permit us to dwell in His presance, for what state we die in (either forgiven or un-forgiven) we are that way for eternity.

It is sorta like going hiking up a huge mountain. Our objective is to get to the top. Now...we all start at the bottom. God tells us that it is going to be a hard climb, but He is going to give you as much help has He can. He isn't going to force us to climb...and he isn't going to force us to follow a certain path…but he has mapped out the best path to the top.
The path is marked well, lit well, and has a rail to hold on to. To top it all off, we have been given guides and helps all along the way. Also…we have a map and explicit instructions on how to get to the top of the mountain.
Now, He also tells us of the dangers of the climb...some paths lead to undesirable places and those who go down those paths not so great ends. There are ferocious beasts, cliffs, we are to except storms as well. Only draw back is that the path is narrow. Easy to step off the path if you aren’t paying attention.
He hands us the map...and informs us that if we get lost...he will send out help to get us back on the right path if we send up the signal. And he will send help…but we have to ask. God won’t force anyone to take the path set out for us…if we choose another path…we are left to our own devices.
God doesn’t choose for anyone to spend time in “Hell”…our choices dictate. We know the rules, we know the hazards, we know what is at stake. IF WE choose not to follow the path that God has laid out for us…you choose to not to have His help. Take responsibility for your own choices…Stop blaming God because you choose to ignore Him. Are you honestly going to get upset because God isn’t going to force you to come to heaven? Are you honestly asking God to force you to do things you obviously don’t want to do? And getting mad because he won’t force you…but you will be mad if he does…how hypocritical is that?

lol. It is hypocritical nonsense. Making the giant leap in assumption that any god even remotely exists, if the god is a loving god (like Christians like to claim) the god would forgive without being asked and there would be no hell.

of course he loves you but not the error that's killing you and others around you. Just like you need to go to a barber for a hair cut in which you acknowledge he is one who cuts hair likewise Our Heavenly Father is the same way in which you must go to him.

God doesn't want you to fear him. This is a man made rule. He doesn't care if you have a religion. You are still his child. Then again I have never believed in Hell. I think we are living it when on earth. Ask and ye shall receive......:-)

God doesn't send unbelievers to hell -- unbelievers send themselves, by refusing to accept the gift of salvation thru Jesus Christ.
There is only one sin that is unpardonable and that is the sin of unbelief.

In the first place, God exists. Here's one quotation that I find most compelling to show that God does exist.
"My latest source of happiness ~
the realization that it is much more difficult to believe that this beautiful world came about by pure chance than to believe that it was created - and is sustained - by an all-powerful, all-knowing, personal Creator whom we refer to as God. The known universe is too young to spontaneously take the numerous "evolutionary" steps to arrive at the diversity of life forms found in our planet, including its highest form - man with his ability to reason, reflect, intuit, imagine and innovate. The only logical conclusion is that the one almighty eternally existing God created the world and everything in it. Each atom of matter, each iota of energy bears his signature and obeys the laws He has set for them in their various levels of organization and aggregation. But He can override those laws anytime He wants to according to His perfect will. This is why it makes sense to pray. At last, I've found what I've been searching for all these years, the scientific and logical proof that God exists and that I can have a relationship with Him! It's a friendly universe!"
Therefore, if God does exist and he created the universe including us humans, he must have done it for a PURPOSE. Just think about it, if WE humans have a purpose in the things we do, isn't it LOGICAL that God who created us will have a PURPOSE too? Of course, because we cannot be better than him!
I believe that God's purpose in creating us humans - among others - is to have FELLOWSHIP with us. He created us with a free will, so that we are free to believe in him and love him or to reject him. In fact, it's that free will that gives LOVE its true value. To illustrate, if you program you computer into continuously printing "I love you", "I love you", does it mean anything? Of course not, because you just programmed it to do that. But if it suddenly acquired free will and starts displaying those words on your monitor, you'd say, "My computer has become alive with a consciousness, and it loves me!" You will begin to have a relationship with it. Right?
So God does want us to believe in him and to love him. And I believe that THE REASON is ... so that we can AT LAST see and behold and enjoy him forever!
Just think about it, God is the creator and designer of our minds, our spirits, our souls, our consciousness. Part of our conscious faculties is to appreciate BEAUTY. If God is the creator of our sense of the BEAUTIFUL, isn't it because he is the PERFECTLY BEAUTIFUL ONE? Isn't it logical that there could be NOTHING in all his creation that can exceed his beauty and glory! Therefore, in his LOVE for us, he wants us to eventually SEE and ENJOY him ... f-o-r-e-v-e-r!
As to the concept of "hell", I think it may be an oversimplification to think of it as eternally blazing inferno where the souls of the damned will consciously suffer unbearable pain of white-hot burning forever. But then again, it may be just that! I don't really know for sure, I'm just a plain thinking human being.
What ever it is, I think that at the very least, the terrible image we are given about it is mainly meant as a WARNING so that we will try our best to avoid it. Because the GREATEST LOSS that we can suffer is probably not the fact that we might go to "hell" but that we will miss out on the gloriously wonderful and joyful experience of beholding the BEAUTY OF GOD and ENJOYING HIS LOVE ... forever.
I hope dear Atheist friend that this has shed some light for you. My parting word, God loves you more than you realize it. And for some reason, even if I hardly know you, I do feel that love for you myself. I really do. Otherwise, I wouldn't have taken the trouble of answering your question.
