NO, no, no! You need to go in and talk to his teacher. Let him/her know what is going on. If you have been doing his homework and he has not been learning the information he can not just jump back in and continue to do it himself because he has not learned the previous information needed to do this work. The school can offer help and go back and teach him what he needs to learn. It is your job as the parent to help him learn as well it is not just the schools job. Turn off the computer, video games, TV and help your child learn! When he grows up and ends up working a dead end job do you really think he is going to thank you for letting him get away with not learning? No he is probably going to blame you for him not being as smart as he could be. It also sounds like he needs to get into see a doctor if you truly believe he has ADD, or could it be you just let him get away with whatever he wants? I know this information may seem harsh, but I plan on doing whatever it takes to help my daughter learn and become the best person she can be. I suggest you do the same.

If you do the homework for him, you're accomplishing nothing and you're actually hurting him by making the teacher think he understands things that he doesn't (so she doesn't explain it better at school). Have him do the best job he can on the homework. Ask the teacher how long she expects him to spend on it, and have him spend that long but no longer. If he really doesn't understand it without major help from you, then tell the teacher he tried but just didn't get it. His grades may be lower, but he will learn better than if you did it. And if you are doing the homework for him or telling him to throw it away you are teaching him the wrong message about education, integrity, persistence, and work ethic.

Throwing out your child's homework is about the worst thing you can do. Homework is a precursor to having a job. It is a responsibility. You need to speak with the teacher, be honest. It would be wise to ask if there is a homework assistance program.
