I have spoken with the same kids many times not to pick the oranges they are still green. And when they are orange don't just pick ,you could break the branches.Knock on my door and I will get you one.I am nice I will share but ask before picking.
I have netting over the orange tree ,they understand that I put the netting over the tree because of people picking the oranges.
Yeaterday a seven year old knocked on my door and told me that his sister just picked an orange.I told him the oranges are still green she shouldn't be picking them.Thank you for telling me.And let your mother know to.
Latter I saw the twelve year old girl and asked her if she picked an orange. She said no but her friend did .I said why they are still green.I asked if next time if she would ask her not to pick them because they are not ready.I said and it's not nice just to go in someones yard and pick things ,that is stealing.Let her know I will give her some when they are orange .But dont just take ask me.

Becareful what you tell those who are younger and more impessionable than you,It is essential that you teach by example as much as possible. Did I explain wrong.I do consider picking my oranges stealing,Because I've asked them not to pick and they are going in my yard and picking.

I think you need to be a little more forceful with the children involving removal of your property without your permission. Talk to their parents yourself if you have to. Children are very impressionable, and right now you are giving them the impression that they can take what they want without asking and won't get in trouble.

Post a no trespassing sign. If someone gets hurt picking oranges on our property you are responsible. The parents need to be teaching their children to respect private property so you need to let them know that their children are disrespecting your wishes.

First of all, it looks like you have a good deal of patience with these children.
Secondly, it is not exactly stealing, if you go by biblical example. The Torah(Law of Moses)says that a traveler or the poor can go to a tree and pick the fruit to eat, provided that he is taking the fruit to provide his food for that moment(ie not sticking it in his pocket to sell later). Anyone can do this in the land of Israel, it is common.
But I admire you that you are trying to teach the children about asking permission and that the fruit should not be picked early. That is showing 'Love thy neighbor as thyself' in a good way. :-)

put up a sign saying "no trespassing-no picking". if they still pick scare the piss out of them.
talk to the parents.
wait in the bushes; when you see a kid starting to pick throw something sharp, heavy and large at them. if they get hurt get them off your property quickly.
press trespassing charges on them.

if the tree is on your property these kids are stealing and trespassing. walking on your grass is killing it; stealing your food; destroying your property.............WTF!
i like the idea of putting something on your lawn to ruin their shoes and their parents' carpets (or hardwood floors - yikes!)

get in the brush with a hose and squirt them as soon as they get close (all the way up on your property)

parents these days are to afraid to displine there own child!
it's stealling treat it as that!
talk to the parents! put some of that stuff that messes with your shoes on your grass and ask them to stay off it or their feet will turn green and then it will get tracked into moms house and sooner or later mom will get sick of cleaning it!
