have a Toshiba Satellite 1115-S103 laptop. I tried changing the order in BIOS to boot windows from cd but still no luck. When it first happened it would take me to my desktop only explorer wouldnt load and it gave errors about explorer image not available or something like that so i believe its a registry problem, however I cannot get my computer to boot from CD to repair this. What do i need to do?

it will not boot in any mode, safe or normal. how do i reformat the hard drive from setup? i cant boot off of any cd, it just shows windows starting up then restarts

Leave it in the boot from cd mode in your bios, and then try the following to perform a "repair" installation.

REPAIRING OR REINSTALLING WINDOWS XP

Turn your PC on and insert the Windows XP disk into the CD/DVD drive.

Reboot/restart the PC. This will cause the PC to boot from the XP disk and not the hard drive..

Allow the PC to run the boot up sequence. It will stop at a “black and white” screen and there will be an option to select a “repair” installation or a “full” installation.

NOTE:

If you simply want to repair/fix any and all corrupted and/or problem XP files select the “repair” option. This will only rewrite the XP files and will not affect any of your personal files or software on your PC.

If you want to Format the hard drive and rebuild it completely select the “full” installation option. Be aware that with this option you will “erase” all the files and software on that hard drive.

Select either the “repair” or “full” installation option and simply let the software run. Follow any onscreen prompts that may appear, especially during the “full” installation.

Hope this helps.

Try to boot into your bios and change the boot options so that the machine will boot to the XP CD. It is probably set to boot to a floppy and Hard Drive only and you can set it to DVD and Hardrive. Make sure that you have it boot to DVD or CD first. I think most systems it is f2 to go to your bios/system settings. once you get the machine to boot to the xp cd you can do a format of the HD and then install Windows onto the fresh hard drive. Good Luck!!! I hope this helps!!
