i agree with edward so there was someone to blame but i dont think thats why. They needed to give people hope that there was something more to life, a purpose. An explanation on why we are here because i dont think scientists (if they were around back then) had any idea, I guess god also helped in making a set of rules to society if you didnt follow gods rules you would be in some serious trouble because he had the power to take your life and all that.

Human beings need a sense of purpose. Many gods have been created to help guide us. The God of Abraham has emerged as the most popular in the western world. Any god will do though if you need something to give meaning to your life. It is hard for many to believe that we are responsible for our own destiny.

to try to explain things they didn't otherwise understand..... like lightning... an angry god was a good explaination for that , to a cave man...... now that we understand better, the whole idea 'could' go away, but is so ingrained in some, that even faced with 'proofs', there are some who still say the Earth is flat... same with religion.... we know enuff now to have abandoned mighty THOR and his Hammer as the cause of lightning..... how much longer for the rest of it?....

This is a good old question and one of my favourites. Especially as we created HIM in OUR image. I suspect it is our pack mentality nature always looking for a "head" of the pack. Probably also our vanity. We cant believe or wont believe we just came about and are so arrogant we cant believe it was an accident without any meaning. Take your pick.

Humans created alot of false gods.
molek, ishtar, tammuz, mohommad, buddah, joseph smith, mary, the pope all things that men worship falsely.
they have no real power and by having no power cannot hold them accountable for their sin.
Men makes gods that cannot punish them, only make them feel good.
