u have to go back to the dealer and have your brother refinance the car without you. As long as his credit is ok now he should have no problem doing it and youll be off.

Sorry. You are stuck with the contract until brother in law (or you) has paid off every bit of the contract. As a co-signer, you are liable for the debt if he doesn't pay. There is no way to get your name off the contract. All you can do is hope that he pays on time. If he doesn't pay his car notes on time, it will be reflected poorly on his credit report, and your credit report as well will show late payments. Sit down with your BIL and tell him how important it is to make these payments, as he can now ruin *your* credit if he doesn't make his payments on time.

Cosigning for someone is a bad idea!! You can get screwed. The only way to get your name off the car is to have your brother in law go and get a loan from a bank and refinance the car otherwise your stuck!
