I consider myself to be both intelligent and arrogant, but I don't attribute either one of those things to not believing in God.

Because we like to confuse the issue with trivia like facts and reality when they already have read the answer from their book.

Since when was it 'arrogant' to point out the reality of a situation?

Edit:
What a pair. Dawkins and Haggard.
Dawkins is very intelligent, but is very arrogant in the way he pushes his argument. Not that I disagree with him, but it allows people to debate the man not the issue.

And what can I say about Pastor Ted? Why do the words sniveling little hypocrite come to my mind?

I loved the bit after your clip where Pastor Ted has Dawkins and his film crew thrown of the campus because he learned that Dawkins claimed that Pastor Ted's children are (evolved from) animals. Wow, like he just then realized that a leading evolutionary biologist would think this! Or could it be that he thought the interview went badly? LOL.

Well lets see...
There's someone here that say not all atheists are intelligent or arrogant.

I can say the same thing for the minister, not all Christian Ministers are actually following the Bible.

Or perhaps that what that Christian Minister said rings truth and you guys just don't like hearing that.
That's part of arrogance.

Miracles happen everyday.
Like how a cancer patient suddenly get cured and the doctors can't find a reason why it happen.
Or how a supposingly high blood pressure person hasn't got any problems so far in all her 60+ life? And no doctor can find the reason for that. And I know these people.
If its not God then what?

I don't really care what the Christian Minister thinks or says.

Could it be the Minister is arrogant for making a judgment?

I always thought only "God" can make judgments.....isn't there a part of the Bible that says "he who is without sin cast the first stone"?

Why do some Christians forget that verse.....as an Atheist I always found it to be profound.

Well, the arrogance comes off when we try to explain things for the nth time and we get frustrated at how blindly people will believe their myths, cover their ears, and chant "no, I *don't* understand that evolution has evidence and makes perfect sense, no, I *don't* understand..." etc...
When people want the freedom to "witness" (i.e. preach and rant about their crazy stories) while refusing to consider anything reasonable...it tends to make the other side a bit caustic.
At least we are usually witty in our arrogance though. I wonder how many of them actually catch the "intelligent wit" we have here...
*The intelligence part is basically just a given for any Real Atheist ™. :) :) :)

Why do people accept the statements made by a minister as inherently true? Not all atheists are intelligent and certainly not all of them are arrogant.

For the same reason that o many Christians can be "faithfully arrogant". It seem sto be part of human nature to try to feel "superior".

Kirk Cameron, formerly of "Growing Pains", now simply a smart **s, is part of a ministry called "The Way of The Master", which purports to show people how to share their faith "effectively and inoffensively".

His method of sharing "inoffensively" was demonstrated where he brought hidden recording equipment to a modern Druidic ritual. He then, on the air was making fun of people because they don't have "scriptural authority", that their scripture isn't thousands of years old, that they don't require people to believe set dogma and such.

The same sort of people who take such great offense at people poking fun of their faith have no (or few) qualms about poking fun at others.

Why do you think that atheists seem "intelligently arrogant". It is because atheists often find refuge in the intellect and things that can be proved or shown to be reasonable and reliable. They are not swayed by scare-tactics. They tend to study and not rely on myth and fairy-tale. Arguments such as the ersatz "proofs" of the existence of God by Aquinas or the wager of Pascal (otherwise rather intelligent individuals) do not sway them simply because they are based on conjecture, speculation or faulty or lacking information.

Admittedly, there are a number of stupid atheists, just as there are a number of stupid Pagans and Christians. Among these though, Christianity is the one which warns against investigation. Atheism and Paganism do not tell people not to investigate other faiths for fear of being (seduced). Consequently, we have the ability to learn and study. We do not necessarily show contempt prior to investigation as many Christians are so wont to do.

Look at the number of Christians who lambaste Catholics, calling them Pagan and a religion with a gospel of works. Many Christians can't even agree on what Christianity is, shun other Christians based on what they read in a Chick Tract. They are told to study the Scripture for themselves, but are quite instructed as to the interpretation they should come away with. They are taught to "think for themselves" as long as the thinking yields an orthodox and accepted understanding.

Atheists are "intelligently arrogant" because they must be responsible for what they believe. They don't have the ultimate scapegoat of scripture to run to. They don't have God or a Devil to blame for anything.

If that's how he wants to see it, I guess that's his right, but they can't be any more irritating than the many Christians who give off an air off moral arrogance. That reminds me, is humility still considered a virtue? Nobody seems to practice it and I never see it discussed much anymore.

Ughh. I hate it when people do this, quote someone else. I hate following links. I have no idea what the minister means. I will say this. xians, jw's and other terrorists for jesus (tfj for short) come to my door spewing their burn in hell message of "love." I DONT GO TO THEIR DOORS. !!!! They have no facts, only speculation about what might have occured 2000 years ago and recorded decades to hundreds of years later by hearsay and rumor accounts. If there is a god, my belief in him/it/her does not depend first on my belief in man. It is the single largest flaw in every religion. Belief in a set of religious texts requires first and foremost faith in man. That is an unacceptable premise on which to build any belief in any god.

Because they think the "Religion & Sprituality" topic should have been included in the "Mythology & Folklore" topic, and they think correctly about that!! Religion resembles mythology and folklore and old wive's tales far more than anything else I can think of. I would suggest that there are far more knowledgable atheists who are arrogantly intelligent than Christian fundy's who are self-righteously UNintelligent and UNinformed. But who cares?

Do you suppose a Christian minister is the best source or information about atheists? Objective? No particular agenda of his own to push?
