Have you tried hiding it in a square of cheese? This worked with our golden lab...must be something to do with labradors this tablet refusing trait lol. If he susses you with the cheese then just put it into his mouth as far back as you dare, given that it is the bitey end you'll be dealing with lol, hold his mouth shut n rub his throat until he swallows it. It may sound harsh but that's how the vet would do it and it saves a lot of messing about. Try and stay calm when it is wormer time because it could be that he is sensing something from you and that's the reason why he is being difficult. If you're thinking there's going to be a problem then he will give you a problem....dogs are clever animals and will pick up on things like that! Hope these suggestions are helpful and good luck with the next wormer time! xxx

Are you a strong Alpha Pack Leader????
If you, you RULE!
I simply place all pills in with the morning meal. If the dogs spit the pill out, I simply sit the dog down. Lean down from above and use my Left hand fingers to lift the upper jaw by lifting the front teeth. I pull the upper jaw up till the head is back and the mouth is wide open. THEN... I stick my right hand down the throat and place the pill(s) all the way down to the back of the tongue. Then I remove my right hand and use it to pull the chin up to close the mouth. I hold the mouth closed gently with the left hand and stroke the throat to encourage swallowing with my right hand long enough that the dog swallows.
The ONLY pill I have trouble with is the tapeworm pill cause it's SOoooo disgusting in taste.
For worming, I use D-worm chewables and my dogs LOVE the taste. If you have not tried those, I highly recommend them. Your use of worming medicine that you have to take several days to get it into the dog is much less effective because you don't give it all at once. What I like about D-worm chewable is that the taste is so good the dogs consider it to be a treat! It's also one of the better wormers.
I get D-worm at Tractor Supply and at Jefferspet online.
If you have to throw pills, you can do it successfully. I'm 65 and have NO problem tossing pills down the throats of 2 large, strong pyrs.

There are different brands of wormers with the same ingredients. It is just packaged different like human meds are. Amoxicillan is sometimes packaged as "bubble gum medicine" for kids or simply a capsule for adults. But it is the exact same drug.
I would suggest you ask your vet for a more palatable form of the drug. If he won't give you another, then see what the active ingredient is in the wormer, and look yourself. Pyrantel is pyrantel no matter how it's flavored or packaged. It's the same with other drugs. Just find out what drug your dog needs, and find it in a form that he will like to eat. All wormers are sold OTC.

A good idea would be to sneak it into his food?...
Ok. Dogs LOVE wet food. So go to the grocery store and get him some wet dog food, mix the wormer in there, and the meat scent is so strong along with the taste, I doubt he'll actually just walk by it and not eat it.

If this is in pill form, just open his mouth up and put it in the back of his throat and close his mouth and make him take it. If it is in liquid form, draw it up in an oral syringe and stick the syringe along the sides of his teeth aiming between them towards his mouth. Hold his head up and closed until he swallows. If you have a dog that will not take meds disguised with food, then just make him take it.

He doesn't like the smell or taste of it.
My vet taught me to do this when giving my dogs their meds. (I have 5 dogs, 4 being stubborn large breeds)
Hold the dogs chin, put the pill as far back on it's tonge as you can, close his mouth, and blow directly into his nose.
This does not hurt your dog in any way or anything, it just stimulates the dog to swallow. It really works, especially with my 3 yr. old yellow lab.

Exactly like my dog! I make her a vegemite 1 slice piece of bread or 2slice and put the tablet in there&cover it up with vegemite and fold it in half or the 2piece of bread. Just make sure you don't dip the knife in the butter or vegemite after you put it on the dog tablet. Dogs love the taste of VEGEMITE-my dog will grap the vegemite sandwich with the tablet&give me a funny look after she chewed the whole thing, As if to say, "You got me this time, won't be so lucky next time!" A little bit of bread won't hurt the dogs.
You could also put peanut butter on the tablet instead. A tv vet told me this and use cats for the example- my cat happened to not like Vegemite- so i tried i on my dog! Lol works like a charm everytime for my dog anyway!
Minced meat- a small ball and hide the tablet in there.
A couple of slice of Cheese&hid the tablet in there.
I wouldn't use butter on its own as dogs just tend to lick butter off! Wet food didn't work for my dog! she just chewed&licked around it!

IMHO, the dog can sense your uneasiness when giving the wormer.
Use some pate, make 3 balls. Hide the pill in one of them.
Give "blank", "loaded", "blank"
You are done.

Why don't you use a wormer in the form of a pill, in a small treat, or a spot on liquid (profender)?
