I think kids is high school are so fake because they are trying to figure out who they are, or who they want to be.
They are trying to break away from the parents and gain more independence.
They think people will like them if they behave in a certain way.
Popularity is often determined by material possessions and if they don't have all the latest stuff, they feel they have to fake it.
High school kids are immature and are trying to figure out what it means to be grown-up and the parents aren't interested in helping them become a better person.
Maybe they are fake because the parents are fake and that's all they know.
Maybe they are fake because they think it's not wise to be themselves...they need to fit in, not stand out.
Maybe they are fake because they are really insecure with themselves and are trying to cover.

Sweetheart, I don't know what grade you're in, but realize, that people are people. I know as a young person it can be difficult because classmates can been mean, talk about you, maybe think they're better than you and the list goes on. One thing you have to realize is that we are always growing and maturing. Especially at the ages of 14-18. They may not know how to deal with people, understand the important of telling the truth and being real. My advice: Make sure that you are always true to yourself. If you try to fit into what they may be trying to do, you may come to find out that they were being unauthentic the whole time and you compromised yourself to fit into that. Just be confident in yourself, your abilities, your future, your personality, your likes and dislikes. Truly, what anyone else thinks, really does not matter, especially if you're doing whats best for you.
