In honesty, I think you're question proves the lack of distinction between faith and religion. Without religion, people would probably be better off. Without faith, the world would probably lie in ruin. Most religions are actually factions of extremists. Some may even prefer to call them cults. They are groups of people who tend to refuse anything outside what they believe to be true. They don't weigh their options, merely leap blindly into a faith because they were told that the world is such.
It is wrong to follow a belief because you were told to do so. Faith itself can help individuals set guidelines and give them hope when nothing else seems to be working. Faith is a set of beliefs, whether religious or otherwise that sets the world into perspective. Faith gives people purpose while religion gives people excuses.
If, by your question, you meant "what would the world be like if the entire population were atheistic?" the answer is actually pretty simple. It would be just as chaotic as it is today. Some people would be able to differentiate between right and wrong, while others would merely determine that since they're in control of their own lives, they can do whatever they want. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? People are hard-wired with good and evil. Some choose good, some chose evil. It's the nature of the world.
As a quick example, I'm Agnostic. Most people seem to think that Agnostics are trapped between beliefs and just can't determine which way to go. That's not exactly true in all cases. As for me, I believe that anything could be true. I like to keep an open mind. By thinking as such, I will live my life by my terms and be the best person I can. Then, whether there's a god or not, I can be happy with my achievements when I die. If there is a god and he won't accept my choices, then he is not my god.
I should also add that wars have actually decreased in number since Atheistic numbers have increased. It's true that the numbers of crimes increase, but the percentage of crime has actually decreased. How is this possible? Population increases, becomes more crowded. A few will commit crimes for their various reasons, but the majority will still abide by the law. Also of note, in the USA, about 80% of the individuals who commit crimes consider themselves Christians of some form.

I think that if there wasn't religion this world would go to hell in a hand basket very quickly. I know that alot of people already don't believe in Christ and they turn their backs on Him every day until there is a bad situation that they can't handle on their own then they beg Him to help. So I think that if everyone would just turn to Christ now then maybe we could put Satan back where he belongs...HELL!!!
I also feel that if everyone didn't believe in God then we might as well give up the fight and take an elevator straight to hell and start our eternity with Satan and all the other little demons.
I am so thankful that my family believes in God and that I know that when we all die we will meet again someday in heaven sitting on the right hand of God at His throne. For this is what God has promised all of His followers in the Bible.

I think it's hysterical all these unbelievers talking about how much better off the world would be without religion.
Reminds of that great old saying "Be careful what you wish for...."
Religion is the one thing that focuses our efforts on the idea of something greater than ourselves.
By definition without religion -everyone becomes even more selfish than we already are. And if you think a world of selfish people is a good thing....

The world would be a very different place if religion had never existed. Giant man eathing sloths would roam the landscape. Super intelligent atheist earthwoms would have enslaved much of humanity and forced them to work in their diamond mines deep beneath the earth's surface. Without hope of rescue or divine intervention, human beings would loose hope and cower before their earthworm overlords for all eternity.

If there is good religion...
Less people will come out to steal.
Less people will get killed.
Less people will get hurt.
Less people will feel unsecure.
Society become more friendly.
Burden of economy will become less strain, to tackle a decrease in criminal activities....
than it is now.
If there is no good religion...
More people will come out to steal.
More people will get killed.
More people will get hurt.
More people will feel unsecure.
Society become less friendly.
Burden of economy will become more strain, to tackle increase criminal activities....
than it is now.
The change of the state of our society reflects just how many take on good and how many take on bad religion. Those who claim do not have any religion in fact do have some form of it but is dictated by their own conscience, which can be either good or bad.

Well before the messengers where sent to REMIND the people of the true god, every single soul was craving for a creator so they began praying to the stars and idols.

It wouldn't work. People feel the need to worship or pray, to give in to the fact that we aren't the most powerful thing out there.
If the whole world stopped believing, Imagine that.
