Celibacy is great for courting because it weeds out dates only interested in sex, prevents any pregnancy without a joint commitment (especially from the male), and would of course prevent sexually transmitted diseases.

Celibacy is horrible for an entire lifestyle because we were made to procreate or we would all die off. In addition, when guys climax, it feels like a drug is instantly released all over the body that relaxes every muscle and nerve ending. That is very addictive! Women enjoy the nurturing and can easily have climaxes without intercourse. If it were not for the guy's addiction, guys would not be so pushy for sex and the human population would not have lasted as long as it has. For proof of effectiveness/ineffectiveness of celibacy, look at the Catholic priests not allowed to marry. They don't have rap sheets as far as theft, arson, and murder go, but the one thing they struggle with the most is the one thing that their mind and body desires the most: sex. The protestants allow their priests to marry and you don't see them having any rape scandals do you?

Well, to be honest celibacy until you are ready for sex (about mid-20s) is realistic, but where would our population go if a lot of people practiced celibacy? We were made to reproduce, so why try and stop that?

No - except perhaps in marriage! Those who practice it save themselves a whole lot of trouble, pain, agony, complication!
Recently a single christian man told me he felt closer to God, since he had decided to be celibate.
It is non-celibacy that causes not only unwanted pregnancies & abortions, but torrents of guilt, pain to others, and regret. Can so easily wreck lives.
At least celibacy does no harm to anyone!
good luck.

celibacy meaning abstaining from moral grounds, or just abstaining because it is really not worth the hassles?

or celibacy meaning an enforced policy like of a church, or religious order?

IMHO all of these CAN be good, but are not necessarily always good

Its not wrong if its what you feel strongly about. I feel it would be a shame to hold out till your married and then find out your not compatible.

if your meaning celibacy for life then its a different story - you could be missing out on soooooo much!

No celibacy is not wrong....it is quite the opposite.
No fears of ever having a STD( sexually transmitted disease)
AIDs or anything else.
Waiting to have sex with the right person in life is one of the highest compliments you can offer yourself or that partner...when you choose to ...is wonderful.
Kudo to you and your choice.

Not at all. In fact, it's common sense. If more practiced it, there would be less of an epidemic of sexually transminnted disease. There is such a huge outbereak of herpes, it's ridiculous. All ages, all races, all walks of life. I have a 13 year old pateint recently diagnosed, a 63 year old former nun!
You just never know these days.

I was celibate until I was thirty-six! Trust me, sex isn't that big of a deal! My mate kept saying it's time i got sex, got pregnant, etc! I told her politely that I didn't give a toss! Celibacy is cool!

I wouldn't say choosing to be celibate is wrong (I don't get why you would, but each to their own) but enforced celibacy, like with priests is unnatural, and can end up leading to very nasty things happening.

No Celibacy is standing what you believe for, may it be religious or philosophical.

Besides, it would protect you from getting sexually transmitted diseases .
