Do people use this abbreviation for different things?I thought it meant laugh out loud but then a very "feminine" male friend kept sending me texts and using it,then someone else said it stood for lots of love,I punched him and then he said it was lots of luck.

It can stand for many things. Let's see...Lewd Octopus Limbs, Limp Ornithologist Lecture, Loud Outburst Lamentation...

Look at the context it has been used in. Most of the time, it can be taken to mean "laugh out loud". People use this phrase all the time, just as something to say I think, so I wouldn't over-analyse it's use.

However, it can be used to mean other things, just like any other text slang. I would say if you're not sure, ask.

Lots of luck is what I've always heard. But people are coining new phrases every day. Acrostics are used so commonly today due to computer science terms and business short hand.

Lol is the most overused abbreviation on Yahoo and in texts generally. I try never to use it. Also, you shouldn't have punched your friend.

I use it to mean laughing out loud... but then I type, ROFLH... which means "rolling on floor, lauging hysterically" :D

As far as I'm concerned: "lol" means "punch me".... which is precisely why I will unleash gratuitous sadism upon any who "lol" in my presence.
