To simply say something or someone does not exist simply because there is no proof?

Ah birdy, need I quote Sagan? "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." but here's a better one from the same guy: "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."

If there is ZERO proof that something exists we still can not say it does not exist. You CAN NOT prove a negative; but we CAN give it a probability.

There have been darker days in the past. But, one does need more light, sometimes, especially if we live in a world that is more complicated. A technologically advanced world creates a lot more problems. Seeing the details or small print, that is required to understand these problems, could require quite a bit more light. People need to be humble, and realyze that lot of things that are not yet proven, need to be looked into. Also using intuition, like a detective does, can help in finding solutions, thus one does not always need to have proof of something in order to use it for guidance.

No, that is the age of enlightenment mentality. No evidence or something means it cannot exist. For example, we used to believe in many many mythical creatures such as dragons and troll, but we now know that they do not exist. It will soon be the same with god.
