When you are reading to a toddler keep it simple, four sentences, per page, to the story. When teaching them, find a book with two word per page, ...like RED CAR, and counting, much the same, until, it gets to easy for them in three weeks if read every day, then get more words in each page. This has helped my children learn.Even though they are all different, i found for boys keep it fun and short and simple. Girls pick up things faster, and like storys alot more read to them.

Winnie the pooh( wasn't Disney but Disney ruined it) , Thomas the tank engine, Mr Men, cat in the hat, fireman Sam.
Anything with animals in them, or lots of colour and pictures. Some interactive books such as pop up boots or books that make a sound or something like that. Also something different things to feel on it like material such as fake fur and something bumpy and that kind of thing.

I relatively have have been given 2 that are 18 months aside inspite of the reality that they are just about 3 and four now.. yet I actually have a three weeks previous toddler and think of that the perfect way is the two get slightly one sling one like a moby wrap and nurse on the bypass or... study some books take a seat down with your lil one while your nursing and study! i think of that the distraction situation could be an theory too yet you could discover that a 19 month previous won't watch television for too long! there is one incorrect way get a play pen and once you're nursing pop the toddler in it with a bunch of toys only make confident you spend time with the lil one once you have finished nursing in case you are trying this one!

My grandson who lives w/ my husband and I really enjoys the books that are about his fave. t..V characters, such as Barney,Elmo, Dora and Diego. He already is very fond of these characters from T.V. so when he sees them in a story book he is very interested to know what they are doing, By the way my grandson is 21 months old. I hope this helps.

There's a GREAT one called Who's Under That Hat? by Sarah Weeks. It rhymes and consists of different animals and such hidden under different hats. The child has to peel back the picture of the hat to see what's under it. It was and still is one of my son's favorites.

"pat the bunny" is a wonderful first book but it is really for putting names to sensory objects like touch and smell. when my kids were that age we had a lot of dr. seuss books like the cat in the hat, in a people house, are you my mother, green eggs and ham etc. they were great fun to read and the words are short enough for young ones to start to pick out and read for themselves. the pictures will also bring many giggles.
