My father has lost a lot of weight due to diarrea. He has been in the hospital since Thursday. There is a possibility that he is bleeding through his intestines or has an infections. What can I do to help him get better?
Any natural remedies to stop the diarrea? Or is there any food that can stop that? He has been living in my cousins house and she has no consideration about what he suppose to eat. I am moving soon, that is why he is not living with me until I move which is going to be in a month from now.

Rae, the solution is a very simple one. Simply increase the amount of whole vegetables that he eats, more rice, beans and lentils and less fatty cuts of meat and Nitrated meats like Ham and bacon. Start him off slowly and give him Oatmeal for breakfast to help cleanse his digestive tract. When that's done ( about a week or so, then start him off slowly switching over to more and more vegetables in his diet and decrreasing the meats.

first of all he is in the right place and needs to be checked for underlying causes if so medication can sort this if however it is an infection the diahorrea is the bodies defence of expelling toxins, so it must work its way out,I expect he will be on a drip to help with fluid loss,I have had bowel disease for 9 years and have been through the same, after he will be very weak and its best to try small meals or snacks little and often,I always stay with my mum who make me eat regularly even if i am sick, fresh mangoes lots of oats and bland foods like fish and mash is great and drink as much as possible to help repair the body, just try tasty and nutritious food and if he can't manage this try meal replacement drinks for vitamins. its good he has you to care for him hope you both are ok lol

I answered a similar question and I will stick to the advice I gave there.

I would recommend you run any of the Alternative Treatments past the doctor, or research them on the web.
It is your father's health we are talking about and that isn't to be messed with.

If he smokes or drinks, he MUST quit. Other than that, the right food. You can consult the hospital nutritionist for a diet.
