The first chocolates, named truffle, where rather soft melting pralinees, covered with cocoa powder. They look a bit like the mushrooms and got therefore the name.

The fungi was discovered and named long before it became a candy and/or dessert. Wild pigs found them.

The confection was called that because in shape they resemble a truffle, the fungus.
