I went running to my doctor about 5 years ago complaining of what felt like a heart attack---a crushing pain in my sternum. He said that as long as you can reproduce the same pain it was Costochondritis.
According to the Mayo Clinic: "The reproducible tenderness you feel when you press on the rib joints (costochondral junctions) is a constant feature of costochondritis. Without this tenderness, a diagnosis of costochondritis is unlikely. "
The cause can be anything from exercise, fibromyalgia, or an infection that has left the ribs inflamed.
The fact that you have a double DD does not have an effect on your costochondritis, but it can effect your low back. I, too am large chested and large breasts put strain on every area of my back...I always say it feels like I am carrying two bowling balls..
Try placing a heating pad in the area-- you may want to alternate it with ice.
You can massage the area very lightly---Some bengay or other sports ointment may relieve some of the pain
Take Advil, Motril
If it doesn't go away in a week, you will want to visit your doctor who can prescribe muscle-relaxants or other stronger medications---one time my doc gave me cortisone to reduce the inflammation.
When I got the diagnosis I was really perplexed because I did not know that the ribs could affect you in your sternum! It is the upper ribs.
I appreciate the pain. I've had it for years---it comes and goes.
The pain will start to lessen, but it may come back in the future. It seems like once you've had this it tends to re-occur

Well I agree with sokokl that you should see your doctor especially if it persists. Has this happened before, or is this just a recent thing? Hmm, well I know that sometimes hormonal fluctuations can cause things like back aches and for the chest area to be tender or sore. But because you said that you do have a rather large cup size, then this could be the contributing factor to the pain. Best to see the doc, hope you start to feel better!

Check with your trainer or doc, but with a bruised sternum usually as long as you can take the pain it is okay to play...if the trainer/doc clears you to play just suck it up...good luck

This sounds like a condition called costochondritis which is an inflammation of the cartillage around the ribcage. When this occurs it can wrap around to the back area.
I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think could be going on.
