There's a new girl at my school and she has a very thick accent (the closest I can think of is Rihanna but hers is much thicker) but she says she was born and raised in America. Her mother doesn't have the accent (she sounds more like a southern accent). How is that possible? Also she's kind of weird looking (you'd never believe she was American). She has like a strawberry blonde hair, her skin color's really weird (it's like Halle Berry's but with a redder tone), her eyes are blue and an eye shape I've never seen before and her lips are really full (like Angelina Jolie's except hers have an arch). Also she's really tall (5' 8" to 5' 9"). Any idea what background she might be from? I don't want to offend her by asking and being wrong with the guess. Her first name's Jamya or Jamia (I'm not sure of the spelling) and her last name is Pendarvis (I think that's the spelling. It's like Pin-Dar-Viss). If you can recognize her culture, can you post info about it? Thanks.

No, I'm not into "chicks." It's just that where I live is a smaller town and she's not a sight you see walking down the street everyday. And she's not adopted.

I thought she might be from Jamaica too but she said she's never been out of the country.

I'm just curious. I didn't mean for it to get all riot-y.

I've seen both her parents. Her mom's kinda tan with dark hair and eyes. Her dad's white.

I don't think she's Asian. She doesn't look Asian at all and her parents don't look Asian either.

Oh Please! This is 2007 and you're at school. Can't you get over the need to know all this stuff and simply get to know her as a person. Even to an old git like me (b 1950s and therefore supposedly laden down with intolerance and prejudice) your question is baffling. All I've heard from the 'society reformers' over the last 30 years is how this stuff doesn't matter and that we're to judge everyone by what they contribute. Now you come along and wreck everything by showing that the kids are even more reactionary than their grandparents! If it matters to you, get to know what she's like, what she does, how she contributes, how you can help her and how she can help you, and the rest will follow. How will knowing everything 'third party' make a difference to how or if you approach her? Just be nice.

Hi JL! I think it would be better to ask her about the things you wanna know about her. She'll never get offended if you'll do the questioning in a nice friendly way. Most importantly, let's learn not to judge a person by the looks. If you think she's hiding something from you. Let it be. Truth always prevails, so don't worry. Just be nice to her and once you're already good friends, she'll confide with you. We all live on the same planet so don't let RACE be a hindrance for us to make new friends.

A lot of french individuals orinally settled in New Orleans and look to have built their possess language/accessory. There is a reputation for it however can not suppose what it's on the second. Why do not you simply say to her that you just love her accessory and puzzled in which it comes from. Flattery gets you in all places.

Just because her accent is different than yours doesn't make it strange. Its just different. Different areas of the country have very different dialects of the same language. She might be adopted too... from another country. I'm sure if you are polite and ask her, she wouldn't mind letting you know.
Also, I don't think putting her name in a public forum like this is appropriate. Did you get her permission to use her name?
Doubtful.

We all know shes an alien. From what planet I'm not sure but I'd keep my distance in case weird things start to happen.
Have you seen her hair stand straight up yet.

That's the first sign to run. Watch her height as well she may be one of those transformer models.

Make friends and ask her nicely. A lot of needless stupidity happens when people assume ideas when encountering unusual folk they never bother to ask.

Why are you posting her whole name on the Y!A for all to see? Why are you in her grill. I know what it is. You're jealous. You think she is going to steal all the boys from you. It's okay just mind your own business and stay out of hers. If you want to know just ask her not us. How the h are we suppose to know what ethnic background she's from!!:)(:
