How dose religion effect the world in both positive and negative ways? The main things i want to know is... Are there more negative things than positive? And... do you think religion plays a large role in the way that the world works?

both positive and negative got a month or two . the Holy wars were not exactly positive nor the Christian nation of Germany during the Nazi atrocities . But dispite the hordes of misinformed, religion is the transitional phase that morality must go through to carry it to the more well put times of maturity of the higher intellect of present day and the future.
Superstition is gradually dying out but morality will remain.

I believe that religion has done more good in the world than bad. But like with all things...we tend to hear about the bad a lot more than the good. For example...when there is a natural disaster...anywhere in the world...the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is one of the first responders with food and supplies. Catholic Charities are consistently taking care of the poor and the afflicted all over the world. There are protestant missions that take supplies and such to 3rd world countries...as well as feeding the homeless and caring for the people here in the united states. A lot of hospitals would exist if it wasn't for Religion. Soup kitchens tend to be started by Religions and those that adhere to that religion.
Without organized religions quietly going about their business to provide food, clothing, and messages of hope...the world would be a much crueler place to live.
Don't let the history books and news reports fool you. The feed off of misery...so that is mostly what they report. But that is ok...Most of those who are doing the work of God don't want the limelight or the attention focused upon them anyway. They are in the service of their fellow being and in the service of their God...They get the job done and aren't all that worried about what the world thinks of them.

Faith in God only makes a good effect on the world.
But some in religions can make that religion look bad, so in that respect, it does make a negative effect on the world.
Faith and religion are two different things.
But not all effect that religion has has on the world is bad. There are some great things that some religions have done, that have had a good effect on the world.

There is no "good" religion does. If religion offered anything, it would be not seen in the absence of religion. Charity, compassion, fellowship, etc are all claimed to be "good" that religion does, but religion doesn't do it, people do and often in the absence of religion. Mitigate suffering? Religion sometimes offers a pretty promise of a world without it, but only at the price of servitude. Religion has always been a mechanism of social control. It fills no need, does nothing redeemable.

There are two topics that wars are started over...religion and politics.
On the positive side, it has given some people structure and morals, on the other the Catholics and Protestants have been slaughtering each other for years in Ireland and Northern Ireland. As well as the surbs and the muslims and countless others
