The United States has offered rewards to defectors, but the reason is not to copy the technology as much as it is to analyze its strengths and weaknesses.
The U.S. aerospace industry has produced any number of excellent fighter aircraft, most of which are more flexible and fuel efficient than their Russian counterparts. This technology has been exported in many cases to allied countries or other trade partners.
To a greater extent than in the early days of the jet age, Russian aircraft are now also available for export, and if we need a Russian aircraft we can usually buy one from the Russians.
The strength of a fighter is not necessarily its speed or maneuverability. It is its radar systems, its weapons and its ability to acquire and destroy a target. A good fighter has a variety of weapons that can be effectively used at various distances.
While the Russian designs are impressive, American, French, Swedish and British designs are as well.
Russian technology is interesting but not necessarily superior to that of other countries.

The reverse swept wing Su 47 (the black aircraft leading the 4 ship) was meant to be the Russians equivelant of the Typhoon and the F22 but now they are about to announce the design of a new stealth jet the equivelant of the F22.
All the other jets shown are variants of the Su27 airframe.
I have always said that Russian airframes are far better then their western counterparts, but they lack the modern avionics and western cockpit ergonomics that are much more comfortable to use.
Put western systems into Russian airframes and you have something very special.

F-15/16 technology. We are already into the next generation with our stealth fighters including the one capable of supersonic flight without afterburners. The F-22 is the most manuverable fighter I have ever seen.

It's a two-way street. The Russians are stiull very eager to get their hands on Western technology. It's good to know the capabilities of possible enemies.

when the Vietnam war waging the Americans were suffering tremendous losses to enemy migs 17s and mig21s this was unacceptable. They launched two programmes to evaluate and fly these planes called have doughnut and have drill these planes were Flown by us air force persona ll to give fighter pilots experience against and to learn by the weakness from them. This helped to develop the next generation of fighters f-15-16. The CIA also pays vast sums of money to foreign pilots to defect such as Syrian pilots etc Israel assists in this.

Boy howdy, they sure look cool! The dance music in the background makes me want to... well, dance.
It's easy to argue that speed and maneuverability aren't important any more, that advanced radars and missiles can blow a speedy jet out of the sky hundreds of miles away.
People assumed missiles ushered out the era of dogfighting with guns after they were developed. Time and time again, those assumptions have been proven wrong. American fighter pilots are still trained to maneuver and fight with gunsights first and foremost. There are counter-measures to having missiles launched at you. If there weren't, we may as well all be flying cheap crates at each other.
To make it short, they look cool, they fly well, I want to ride one.

gun fights are rare these days but even the Raptor has 20mm for those days it needs to make dogfight kill.
Russia leads in long range Air to Air missles, and if it gets to knife fighting range the Mig 29 will kill an F16 according to Luftwaffe 1 v 1 tests.
In short kewl

I heard all those fancy maneuvers by fighter jets won't matter. Radars are so good now that fighters can launch from hundreds of miles away. I heard they are so good, that even a crappy plane with the radar can destroy a foe, provided it can outrange the other's. What's the point of fancy maneuvers for dogfights then?
