Health is about diet AND exercise.
Trying to get to a healthy weight using only one of these is like getting in a fight with one arm tied behind your back.
NEVER go on a temporary special 'diet'.
When you starve yourself your body responds by dropping your metabolism and making you crave high cal foods. "Low Cal" diets convince you body that it's food source is unreliable, so it tries to pack on a few pounds to protect you.
If you want to be thin you must STOP eating like a fat person. Go on a habit, not a diet.
Getting slim & healthy is about eating moderate amounts of good food instead of stupid amounts of junk food. Just that simple, no pills, no willpower required.
Switching to eating mostly fruits and veggies & drinking water, tea and juice instead of cola, milk and Kool-Aid will do wonders. If & when you do eat something stupid like cola, ice cream or a donut, do it once a week, not once a day.
Snacking between meals is great. If your snack is an apple or a carrot. If it's a candy bar, cake, cookies or potato chips - that's eating like a fat person.
Even a moderate amount of exercise like 20 minutes 3 times a week will slim you down. Also, simply walking burns HALF the calories of playing racquetball. Jared is on the level.
When you exercise 1st thing in the morning, it raises your metabolism, so you burn more calories all day. It also makes you more alert, with out the nasty side effects of caffeine.
JFTR I lost 60lbs over an 18 month period just by minimizing stupid eating and getting a little exercise. That was 6 years ago and I have never gained it back.

You don't have to make a drastic change to your diet, just make a concious decision to cut back on junk food and sugary, fatty stuff and you're fine. Focus on making healthier choices with food rather than 'dieting', keep yourself active and the pounds will melt off. I was a size 20-22 when I was 15, and by making healthier choices and exercising almost daily, I went down to a size 6-8 in 2-3 years and have maintained it for 5 years now. I'm currently on a weight loss program to get down to a size 4, and I find it alot harder if I'm not restricting my food intake and exercising daily.
It's probably possible for you to lose the first 5-10lbs by being more active, but losing the last 10-15lbs is tough as heck, and you'll need to eat less and excercise more. Eating at 1200-1300kcal and doing exercise 4-6 times a week will give you the results you want, or you can take up strength training which will let you eat more than that and still burn fat. You MUST plan your meals atleast a day in advance so that so don't end up over eating or eating junk. Taking a multivitamin and fish/flax seed oil supplement may help control the cravings. Good luck.

Fundamentally "dieting" (by purely restricting your caloric intake) doesn't work with most people because it is perceived as a negative. "You can't eat this", "You shouldn't eat that". In the end, the person on diet feels resentful and can't wait to get off the diet and start bingeing on the "can't eat" and "shouldn't eat" foods.
A healthy, balanced diet should be a long term lifestyle, not a quick 6 week plan and abandoned afterwards. That is why drastic changes should be avoided if possible.
On the exercise front, sure, it's possible to lose 11 pounds by exercising with minimal changes to your diet. But it all depends on what you do when you go to the gym. Exercise has to be of high enough intensity and of the right kind to stimulate your metabolism to rise.
I've seen some women in gyms leisurely (or rather, nonchalantly) pedalling on a stationary bike at slow speed whilst reading a Hello! magazine for an hour and leave. That's not going to get anyone anywhere.
Aim to hit the target heart rate. Do some resistance training (weights) to maintain lean body mass.
But you're right - the biggest thing about exercise is sticking to it. You have to be consistent and keep at it. Your goals could come quickly, or it could take some time, but the important thing is to enjoy yourself as much as you can getting there because if you feel that it's a chore you'll never stick to it.
Good luck and have fun!

I've baked many desserts but consider me, i understand how you think. I started baking after I was 12-13 years ancient and that i burned my reasonable share of desserts, pies, desserts, cookies, and many others. Lol. Now i am 22 and that i feel i am decent at cooking/baking. It takes persistence and plenty of apply, finally you gain knowledge of out of your errors and also you too will be equipped to efficiently bake a cake!
