If you are in the UK, you don't have to - it is the responibility of the seller to send of the V5 with the change details to DVLA as soon as possible after the transaction has taken place.

You should have been given the green portion of the V5 to enable to tax and insure the vehicle prior to receiving a new V5 with your details on it.

If you are in any other country, can't help you.

Rockethorn is absolutely correct.Unless the vendor does this he could be liable for any traffic violations that you incur, and make sure the date on the section of the V5 that he fills in is correct or you could be liable for his.

the previous owner should of filled the log book in and sent it of as long as they have and you have the small green slip then you dont need to do any thing as you will get a log book in a round 2 weeks
