1. Fast food
2. Preservatives which are toxic used in the US are banned in Europe (look up BHT)
3. High Fructose Corn Syrup - cheap form of sugar used in everything in the US, can't be found in Europe and other countries.
3. Easier in the US to get food than other countries.
4. Too easy in the US. Americans don't move to do anything anymore.

Parents are busy and sometimes don't notice what their child eats when they're not around. Also, when a child begins to gain weight, parents go into denial. No parent wants to admit their child is obese.

Too much entertainment from video games, tv, and the computer.

Cheaply produced meals consisting of fatty, chemically altered foods.

Poor cafeteria food for young children.

I think as a nation we're starting to improve. Schools are now taking their menus more seriously, and encouraging exercise and play. ((SOME)) fast food joints are "attempting" to make their foods more healthy.

Fast food restaurants on every corner, frozen dinners, sandwiches/canned soup and potato chips for lunch, Chinese take-away or pizza for dinner, little or no exercise, drive to the convenience store for milk even though it's only 2 blocks away, etc. Do I need to go on?

P.S. I'm American but live in Europe. My European friends are always telling me I don't look American because I'm thin. Pretty sad, huh?

That's definitely correct. I had a European friend joke with me once when he said "I can always spot an American...she's the fat one." Now that's a little harsh, but yeah, I think it's true sadly.

But to answer your question, it's because of our diet. We eat lots of meat, large portions, and fast food. And by the way, it's not just women, it's men too!
