I might trade my 1992 GMC Sonoma for a 1997 Ford Taurus but I was told that most of the Taurus' are lemons. I just want to get some feed back. Thanks

The reason people say this nowadays is because these cars being bought used are ex sales cars, company cars, and all out high mileage cars. When you take those type of cars and add they haven't had any work done to them as far as general maint. then they don't last very long... As far as a good maintained car, they drive and run very good...
My wife has a 96 Sable with the 3.0 24V engine, I rebuilt Sept. of 05, it has 9000 miles on her now, $3000 later we have a great running car. Mind you that includes rebuilding the engine, 4 struts, wheel bearings, ball joints, tires, and alignment. That was all using my labor though...
I rebuilt the engine because the propeller in the water pump broke in 3 pieces. Not knowing if there was engine damage from running hot I just decided to rebuild.
The 24V engine is a very expensive engine to build compared to the 3.0 OHV engine.

Anyone who would tell you that is just a GM guy with a case of sour grapes. Consider how many Tauruses have been sold, that tells you a lot right there. People buy new ones when they wear the old ones out.

Before you buy ANY car, take it to a mechanic who is familiar with that kind of car. He'll know what to look for, and will steer you clear if it's not a good one.

Overall, if you're looking for a just plain-vanilla sedan that does everything it's expected to very well, Taurus is a great choice.

The later model Taurus is a pretty good car, as long as it's been well taken care of. The older ones (early 90's) were a bit more tricky. I would say you're OK as far as the car is concerned, but if I were you I would still take it to a shop and have it checked out.
